the “cook for you” menu at angler is well worth the price! there were no standout dishes but the food was consistently great with massive portions and loved how everything touched the fire. service was top tier, with each server explaining the dishes throughout, and loved the ambiance. overall, would highly recommend angler for special occasions and would come again! pro tip: they encouraged us to pack up the dishes if we were getting full, surprising but delightful oysters: fresh & creamy shisho tuna bite: refreshing with great texture ceviche: another high quality dish, great creamy sauce raddicio salad: wish they chopped it for us but one of my highlights and a unique dish! you’ll love it or hate it frog legs: another standout, perfectly fried scallop: the cream sauce was top tier & scallop perfectly flaky mushroom: tasty, crispy, franks hot sauce type cut through the other rich dishes parker house rolls: solid dish but have had better in the city sea bream: fantastic, lemongrass marinated; smoky scalloped potato: too rich and dense for me sundae: must try! crispy cacao nibs with salted caramel sauce was great
Angler is an awesome spot for seafood in SF. Everything tastes super fresh, and the flavors really pop. The oysters are especially good—some of the best I’ve had. Even the non-seafood items, like the bread with butter and the salad, are surprisingly tasty. The dishes are creative but still let the seafood shine, which I really appreciate. Service is excellent—friendly, attentive, and never stuffy. It’s definitely a high-end restaurant, but the vibe isn’t overly formal. You can relax, enjoy your meal, and just have a really good time. If you love seafood, this place is absolutely worth checking out.
Really enjoyed the food and dinner experience here. The service was outstanding. We opted for the tasting menu where the food was chosen by chef, each course arriving was a nice surprise! The oysters were nice and fresh, the scallops were massive and tasty. The other dishes were equally tasty and well cooked. Unsurprisingly there is a very comprehensive wine list. We had a couple of bottles of Californian white selected by the sommelier, both were really good.
Wonderful experience having the chef’s choice courses here. We love every dish. My favorite is the crispy skin whole chicken, very nice! Desert is also a highlight. Also really wide and great wine selection. You gotta take a bottle if coming here! The wine guy really know his wine - super helpful! Only complaint is that our white wine glass is so brittle and two got shattered during our dinner here. Another thing is the place is much noisier than most other similar restaurants.
5 of us, all fish lovers, came for dinner and we weren't disappointed. Most of the dishes we chose were delicious and beautifully presented. The oysters, trout, blue fin tuna, scallops, and sea bream were all outstanding. We also loved the leeks. The hen of woods mushroom and signature potato dishes were not great. Desserts were good, particularly the ice cream. The service was excellent and the sommelier was truly wonderful helping with our wine choices. The decor was not appreciated as we were surrounded by mounted animal heads, not what one would expect in a fish focused restaurant. If it was less expensive, I would consider a 5 star review for Angler, but at the very high price we paid, I have greater expectations.
