A little hole in the wall place but definitely consider it one of the best Korean restaurants in the area, without being overpriced. The service was excellent, food was delicious, they also use charcoal instead of the gas grill which is really nice. For our leftover meat, they even vacuum sealed and put ice packs with it. Definitely will come back!
Unassuming from the outside. Quaint atmosphere. There are separate little rings for privacy while dining. Coming your own food is optional. Wonderful kitchen. A return visit is definite!
Came in on a Friday night solo and the restaurant had a nice crowd. I was seated in one of those private rooms and was intending to order Korean bbq, however was told that my food was going to be grilled in the back by the staff. That was disappointing, as I enjoy the experience of cooking it on my own while it stays hot and fresh. It seems that unless you are dining with company, you will not be able to experience the KBBQ experience which is sad. I ordered the Galbi rib fingers. They were good, but quickly got cold as I was not able to cook them myself as I ate. Additionally, they charge you $2 for lettuce wraps if you don’t order KBBQ for more than one person which is crazy, as the dish I ordered was $33. I also got the spicy cold noodle naengmeyon. Very tasty and refreshing. The tteokboki was good, however the rice cakes are actually the wheat kind and NOT rice which was a surprise. I had to remind the waitress for my complementary side of white rice as well. Overall, the food is good and this could be a solid place for kbbq if they just treated solo diners as well as groups of 2+ and didn’t charge for lettuce for wraps if it comes included for kbbq for 2+. The food and service was good. We didn’t have issues finding a parking spot and we were seated right away. The meats and sides filled us up and we still had left overs. The sides are free to refill which is a bonus. The seafood pancake was decent but I’ve had better at other KBBQ spots. I was expecting a clean and flavorful taste but there was a slight “ocean” taste to it. It wasn’t bad and it might not be a big deal to others but growing up in the islands has made me a tad sensitive to seafood flavors. If you’re in the area, I recommend stopping by.
Saw this place on Tiktok and the woman was raving that it’s the best KBBQ in Houston. So we had to try it. So, it’s on North Gessner, north of I-10, in a slightly beat up strip center. If I lived a block away and wasn’t told about it, I would have never gone in. We went late afternoon on a Saturday and it was pretty quiet. We walked in and we were warmly greeted. It is a unique (to me) set up with private booths on both sides and tables in the middle. We were seated in a private booth, which is actually pretty cool and with the door open it’s not super secluded. A very nice server came in, gave us menus and after we looked a little we had questions and she suggested the Galbi for two, which we took. The Galbi has marinated short rib meat and a couple of other high end beef cuts. Shortly after, a guy comes in and places a pot with burning wood/charcoal embers and then food starts coming from everywhere. All of the usual sides along with a very very good miso soup. Our server started the cooking and I asked if we take it off and she said yes. I’m not sure if I asked them to cook it if they would so I just went with it and cooked the meat. One note about that - we were cooking some and then eating it and near the end with about a third of our meat left, the embers were not as hot (still cooked but slowly). So my tip is, cook and eat as you go and put it on the side, don’t dally. The beef was so good. The charcoal imparted a nice backyard grill flavor. And they have this little dip with salt and pepper (and soy and olive oil?) that made the meat so good. Everything was really fantastic. The kimchi had a unique spicy kick and I ate it all knowing it was good for me. For dessert, they bring a little bowl of rice punch, which doesn’t look like much (looks like pasta water with some floating specks of rice) but since everything else was so good I knew this was good. And it was. Really just sweet starchy water but it was good. So, I agree with the TikTok reviews - this is a top 3 place for KBBQ in Houston. It’s a must try.
