I know this location is fairly new, and I really wanted to love it. I booked a last-minute appointment and made sure to note that I have textured hair and would need someone with experience. I was paired with a very young stylist who was kind but didn’t seem fully comfortable working with my hair type. I also requested a deep conditioner, but it felt like I was at the bowl for less time than I normally would be with standard shampoo and conditioner. She asked if I wanted a head massage as it “settled in,” and I said yes, but I wasn’t told that it would cost extra, which I didn’t find out until checkout. Clear communication about add-ons would really help. My hair was clean afterward, but the finish was puffy and not the smooth, silky style I’ve consistently had at the West 5th location. I understand they’re newer and still getting established, but I hope to see improvements in communication and textured hair experience in the future. UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO THE SALON’S PUBLIC REPLY: My delay in responding has nothing to do with the validity of my experience. I am a mother, and addressing a disappointing salon visit was understandably not my top priority. The timing of my review does not change what occurred. Secondly, I was absolutely not at the shampoo bowl for 14 minutes. That claim is simply untrue. I did not receive anything close to the experience being described here. Refunding $10 for a service that was never properly provided does not correct the misrepresentation of what happened. While I did politely say I liked my hair at the time (as many clients do in an awkward chair checkout moment), my hair was not silky or smooth once I left. The finish was visibly puffy and did not match the quality of blowouts I’ve received elsewhere. Agreeing out of politeness does not equate to satisfaction. Referring to my stylist as your “Chief Style Boss” is extremely misleading. I was paired with a 19-year-old college student, and there were only two staff members in the salon that day. While she was kind and I do not fault her personally, presenting her publicly as your most senior stylist does not align with what I observed or experienced. If this is indeed your lead stylist, that speaks for itself. Your response attempts to rewrite my experience rather than acknowledge the actual issues: lack of transparency, misleading representation of staff experience, and services that were not delivered as advertised. I stand by my original review.
