We reached out to Sarah after adopting a rescue dog who was exhibiting a high prey drive towards our cats. The rescue listed him as nonreactive to cats, so we weren't prepared for this behavior. We fell in love with our dog and thought we could fix this with training. Sarah asked comprehensive questions over the phone and made us feel we were receiving knowledgeable, expert care. Sarah explained that prey drives can be hard to train away, but she was willing to try and offered us a training plan. Before we even started, two incidents occurred where our dog tried to bite our cats. We reached out to her in distress, and she went above and beyond. She leveled with us and shared her opinion that our dog was not a good fit for our family. She was caring and empathetic while helping us understand why. When we got some push back from the rescue, Sarah even advocated for a swift and successful transfer to a new foster home. No words could express our gratitude for Sarah - she is full of integrity, passion for animals and their caregivers, and an expert in this field. We are so lucky to have her in Madison and I highly recommend them! Sarah has even told us that when we are ready, she is skilled in helping families find a dog that is a good fit. What a gem!
We had a great experience with Sarah and Andrew at Blue Dog. We read every review before deciding to work with them, and we want to pay that forward by sharing our story in case it resonates with someone else. We brought them our 4-month-old Golden Retriever for a two-week “stay and train” session, primarily to address her extreme mouthing and biting behavior. While our pup already knew basic commands like sit, down, stay, and touch we were struggling with her constant biting— she was biting hard and breaking skin daily, and our kids were nervous to go near her. We had tried everything we could think of and were at our wit’s end. Sarah and Andrew were incredibly supportive and generous from the start, offering extensive advice over phone calls and texts even before meeting us. During the training, they sent regular updates and videos, showing us what our puppy was learning and how we could reinforce the behavior at home. They never made us feel judged—just supported and encouraged. Thanks to their guidance, we feel we have the tools and confidence to continue working with our pup. It’s an ongoing journey, but we know Sarah and Andrew will be there to help whenever we need it. They are knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about the dogs they train!
Our experience with Blue Dog Training has exceeded all our expectations. We are amazed at how much our puppy has learned in such a short time, at such a young age. It was difficult to send our puppy away from his home so early on for his two training weeks, but Sarah helped us see it was the best decision for our puppy AND our family. Our puppy received not only the incredible head-starts he needed on positive reinforcement training from Sarah, but also the same love and care that we give to our puppy. Sarah’s professional experience with dogs is highly credible, but also her ability to connect with us as a family was impressive. Andrew did just the same, as they both made our entire family feel welcomed, supported and very much involved in the whole training experience. They are great with my four young kids which has been just as important to us through this whole training process. I am now confident in raising a well behaved puppy and value the long term relationship we have established with Sarah and Andrew at Blue Dog. I cannot imagine bringing our puppy home without their help. I would without a doubt not only recommend but encourage others to work with Sarah.
My experience with Blue Dog Training could not be more wonderful. Sarah, Andrew, and I share quite a journey - from well before I even brought home my Newfoundland puppy. They have been with me every step of the way, always supportive, never judging, always ready to offer help. We did a board and train for our Newfie - Sarah has worked wonders with our puppy. The difference was remarkable. Our puppy is extremely well-socialized, friendly, confident, and well-behaved. She loves learning/training too! Since her return, I have taken her to a number of public places/events and everyone admires how well-behaved and social she is. We have a young child, so it was very important to us that we give the best head start and foundation to our puppy and set her (and our family) up for success. Sarah and Andrew did just that - our puppy has seamlessly adapted to our family. We cannot wait to continue her training with Sarah and Andrew, and at home!
