Born and Raised in San Diego absolutely lived up to the hype when I visited in November 2025. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels upscale yet welcoming—classic steakhouse vibes with a modern edge. The highlight of the night was the ribeye—perfectly cooked, rich, and packed with flavor. You can tell they take real pride in their meat quality and preparation. Every bite was spot on. The drinks were just as impressive. Well-balanced, creative, and consistent—exactly what you want to complement a great steak dinner. The bartenders clearly know what they’re doing. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Great food, great drinks, and a polished but comfortable environment. Definitely a place I’d go back to and recommend if you’re in San Diego.

I had high hopes walking into Born & Raised in San Diego—TikTok and rave reviews set the bar pretty high. And to be fair, the place delivers on atmosphere. It’s stunning. Think 1920s speakeasy meets Great Gatsby—dim lighting, polished details, and a vibe that makes you feel like you should be dressed better than you are. The staff? Equally impressive. Attentive, professional, and welcoming from start to finish. Now… the food. We started strong with drinks while seated at the bar. Service was smooth, and timing initially felt reasonable. But things started to slip with the appetizers. I ordered the 6 oz petite filet, medium. It arrived well done. Not slightly over—fully over. After sending it back (which the staff handled politely), I waited another 20 minutes for a replacement. By the time it came out, everything else at the table was long finished. At that point, it’s less about the steak and more about the experience—and a small gesture like comping or adjusting the dish would’ve gone a long way. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. As for the rest: the uni spaghetti, which we were told is a standout, was surprisingly underwhelming—lacking depth and flavor. The roasted mushrooms followed the same note: visually appealing, but flat on taste. Now credit where it’s due—the Kurobuta pork chop? Incredible. Juicy, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the night. I was fully locked in on that plate and didn’t care who noticed. The bone portion of the chop had me in a chokehold and I loved every minute of it. Overall, Born & Raised feels like a place that leans heavily on its ambiance and reputation. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a top-tier staff, but when it comes to the food, it just didn’t live up to the hype. For the price point, I expected more consistency and a bit more “wow.” Would I come back? Maybe—for the pork chop and a cocktail at the bar. But as a full dining experience, it left me wanting more.

This place has truly perfected there steaks. From the flavor and texture. While the first floor seating is nice I highly recommend the second floor seating it’s amazing. I can’t wait to come here again.
