I wasn't born and raised in San Diego; however, I have lived in San Diego since 2000. I've been to many restaurants in SD but hands down, please, Born and Raised is clearly the best restaurant quietly waiting for you explore. This was our first time to visit; we celebrated my husband's birthday. The moment you walk in the ambience and design set the vibe for you - its classy, more covert, than cocky. We waited less than 15 minutes to be seated (btw it was a Friday and the downstair bar was packed!) We were led upstairs where another bar was full, and our table was perfect. We had a view of Little Italy. We ordered drinks and Art, our server was knowledgeable, charming a good listener. I order a drink, not on the menu, and they delivered! My husband ordered the Whiskey Smash, I asked for a Rosemary Gimlet, and it was perfect! Dinner was delicious. My husband ordered the pork chop, and I ordered the lamb. The portion size of the food and the drinks were generous. Surprisingly the drinkware was actually full size and not the common, small ,4 oz glasses you find at other restaurants. We ordered a second round of drinks and when it came time for the dessert, Born and Raised elevated their status in my opinion! A birthday dessert was a simple macaron and a candle, but it was the third round of drinks what blew us away. We ordered the Espresso Martini with tequila reposado - fantastic and the design on the foam of the drink said Happy Birthday and mine was a design of a rose! These artistic touches made our night! Our server and those circulating around were so attentive and yet, not overbearing. Considered this restaurant to be your new sanctuary! Thank you Born and Raised you have elevated the dinning experience!! We will be back.
Born and Raised in San Diego is absolutely stunning. The interior is beautiful and the atmosphere is top-tier. We ordered the Tomahawk steak and it was phenomenal, hands down one of the best steaks I've ever had. Highly recommend for a special night out!
This is a really solid steakhouse on India St in Little Italy and I would say it’s one of the best designed restaurants in all of San Diego however, Steak 48 has much better steak. I had a great dinner and experience here, but I felt that B&R steaks were underwhelming and lacked a lot of flavor. It also had a peppery and smoky flavor to it, which I didn’t like as much as an original char or a buttery flavor. I say this as someone that gets steak out often, from San Diego, but have been living in LA the last 6 years, so I’ve been spoiled by the options. I felt the best part of this dinner was the design of the restaurant and just the vibes, but the food was not the best of the three dinners I had while visiting town, which is disappointing given how expensive this restaurant is. Parking in this part of town is extremely difficult so the best option would be valet across the street for $18 or a pay lot. The hostess when we entered was not very polite or welcoming however, our waitress was extremely polite and accommodating. We sat upstairs at one of the circular tables facing out towards San Diego and had beautiful views of the downtown. We loved the ambience, and that truly was the best part of the meal. We started off with the French Onion Soup and thought that was really great. It was made with red onions, which was a different twist and was well balanced in flavor. Next we ordered a special which was the Iberico Ham and asked to be expected that was great. I have been to Spain quite a few times and it really reminded me of what I had while visiting there. Next came to Steak Tartare, which I enjoyed, however, I thought it was more of a four out of five. I appreciated the mustard flavor component, but I just felt it lacked really deep flavors. For my entree I chose the Bone-In Ribeye which was 20 ounces and was honestly pretty good but not that great. It really lacked a lot of flavor to be honest. I was really surprised at how little flavor it had. There was also a smoky component to it, which I did not really enjoy. The size was great but for the price they are asking I felt it could’ve been a lot better, with less fat on it too. Overall, a nice option especially for a date. It would be a place to bring an out of towner, or IG aficionado, or something along those lines. For the best steak or a really upscale work dinner option I would choose Stake 48 in Del Mar or possibly Cowboy Star in East Village now that Del Frisco’s left.
BREATH TAKING IS THIS PLACE. there are just some experience in life which you have to try, This place is one. They bring it all to you! All to you. Wagyu, table side cocktails, phenomenal dish service, Thanks Joe ( Smart kid, can't wait till he's a server). They made me feel so special (My first time). You need to talk to Karla She will give you the lowdown on the other sister restaurants that they have. Where to go for what and what kind of setting it is so you know what kind of environment you're walking into. But the star of the show, the star. Now listen closely. You want to sit in Israel (Izzy) section if it's your first time or if you haven't had him. He makes every detail about you and your table. Not only did he walk us through the menu but he gave us a thorough recommendations that were delicious. And I'm not talking about the ones you get off of TikTok that everybody else gets. No, his recommendations were good and delicious. He made our night. We, want to say thank you so much. So, having him as a server is just a delight on a great evening and a rememberable memory. Thank you born and raised. I will definitely be going to some of the recommendations that Karla gave us. Please start selling the macaroons by the dozen or half dozen. They were the best I've ever tasted kudos to your bakery chef. I think we probably would have bought a dozen to take home.
Service was impeccable! Scott was great, very personable and knowledgeable of the menu. We began with the bread and the yellowtail crudo. The bread was the oerfect amount if garlicly and fluffy. I don't do raw fish, but tried the crudo and it was so tender! Our entree was the 20oz bone in ribeye medium rare. It was cooked to perfection! We did try all 4 of the sauces but honestly the dry-age steak needed no extra flavor. For our sides we had the mushrooms in a delicious sauce, the broccolini with a spicy chilean sauce, and the Mac and cheese. For dessert we tried the carrot cake and the cheesecake. You cannot go wrong with either. The carrot cake had a wonderful creamy cinnamon taste. The yuzu cheesecake had a distinct but not overpowering citrus flavor. The decor was very fun. The music was a tad loud, it was difficult to hear the sommelier and our server when he was explaining the desserts. The lighting at the table was slightly too dim, making it a little difficult to see what we were cutting while eating our steak.
