We arrived before opening on a Saturday and waited in line for 40 minutes (which we expected) and were able to order coffee from a Pony Coffee truck, which was delicious. Once inside, incredible smells overtook us and we lost the plot. Ordered so many treats! The single best thing, other than the bread, was the service. Cat and co. were calm, patient, and cheerful as they served us despite the pressure of so many hungry patrons. The didn’t appear ruffled in the least- a rare feat in the service industry! The bread was still warm; we enjoyed it in the car. We are so glad we were able to enjoy Country Bird Bakery while in Tulsa.
When you order a breakfast pasty they are already pre-packaged. When I arrived home I found myself with a $7 burned cinnamon roll and a third of it with no icing. Unfortunately no one in my family was excited for this. For being a James Beard award winner and open one day per week I had higher expectations for Country Bird Bakery.
Holy Moly Country Bird Bakery! This morning, in and during thundering and rain, and OM Goodness, still the long line. Congrats to Country Bird Bakery team for being the first James Beard award winner for Tulsa. Now I have a valid excuse and a place to blame for being called a dough boy! Cat, I have registered and been on a waiting’s list for your training class, I do not give up, I hope to find a spot one of this weekend. Ohh My Goodness!
Rain or shine I’m very impressed by the crowd this bakery brings out. They have very limited hours but when you go, expect to be in line for at least an hour or two. They do have an option that you can purchase a loaf ahead of time that’s online, but you still have to wait in line to get it. When we went we ended up just getting a bag of goodies to try out to make it worth waiting so long. Overall we enjoyed the experience and goods!
NYT's piece doesn't do what CBB and their owner is doing, bringing stupendous baked items with a genuine personal and local flourish to Tulsa. Forgive lack of photographic evidence, items were eaten too quickly. Baguette was flawless, sesame loop was good but tad too crusty, suspect was baked first during this week's iteration. Blondie was best I've ever had, subtle pecan flavor, perfect texture and sweetness. Chocolate CC was stellar. Focaccia prosciutto jam sandwich was unique and as good as any sandwich anywhere. Croissant was unique, sourdough, fantastic.
