I brought my bike in to replace the tubes and the chain and asked for a checkup. Brit immediately said it would cost an extra $90. He told me the bike would be ready in a couple of days, but it was ready the very next day. When I picked it up, he didn’t even have the decency to complete the transaction properly because he was interacting with other customers. After I left, I noticed the bike was making a noise because the tire was too close to the fender. I ended up fixing it myself by watching YouTube videos. I didn’t bother going back since everything seems to come with an “extra cost.” If I had known the experience and interaction would be like this, I would have taken my bike — and my money — to a friendlier bike shop.
Had a similar experience as Andrew and a few others here - they repaired a tire on a scooter, and the very next day after picking it up the whole apparatus exploded while riding it on flat pavement from work. After several back and forth emails, including pictures, they said to bring it in for evaluation. When we did, the owner Jacob immediately blamed it on a wheel defect, denied all responsibility, and accused us of trying to scam him for a freebie - as if assuming that I'm desperate to save $100ish on what should be a simple repair job. Never mind that he misled us into thinking he'd either repair or refund it, causing us to waste our time and gas bringing it over. The whole interaction was extraordinarily unreasonable and condescending. He kept switching between acting like he had no memory of previous work or interaction and acting like his work couldn't have possibly been imperfect, which is a clear sign of dishonesty. Any ethical business owner would have acknowledged the possibility that the repair job caused the problem and would agree to fix it, especially considering how inexpensive it would be for them to do so, how it might have cultivated loyalty, and how easily it could have resulted in serious injury. Additionally, even if it's true that a wheel defect was a major contributor, he had a responsibility to inform of us that before agreeing to do the repair work and taking payment for it. Picture attached for evidence. I'm emphasizing again that this was the very next day. Please take your business elsewhere.
For starters, Brit was here to service my bike at seven in the morning, and that alone is worth eighteen stars. She was done in five minutes, and volunteered the cause of my flat in clear, accurate language. She was friendly, and made helpful suggestions with the clear intent of benefiting my bike and my wallet. They had plenty of extra, higher quality tubes, and she was happy to supply me with a couple back ups. The bike shop shares brick with a coffee shop, and there's a private, single occupancy bathroom, and damn near a wall outlet for every table in the store. Everyone In this place is pretty, and they all sound bright and engaging. The lighting is soft and yellow. The oldies playing over the house system clatters gently, barely audible underneath the comforting sounds of friends reunited, and the expert activities of barista and bike tech alike. All is remedied after my early morning tire catastrophe, and I don't even have to delay my first appointment of the day. Thank you, Brit.
I was stoked when Dogspeed took over the flat track/cycle east space. Quick turnaround, super fair pricing, and quality service. All I could ask for from a Bike mechanic. Will be back again soon!
I came into dogspeed on a recommendation from a friend. When I came in I was immediately worried that the display bikes seemed fewer than most bike shops. I talked to Jacob about what I was looking for and he quickly went through what sizing I would need for my smaller frame and colors I would enjoy. We picked out a frame that would fit me and he said he would build a bike and send me a photo of it soon. After this interaction I left not even knowing if he was actually going to follow up so I went to another bike shop on south Lamar. It was very sales focused and I could tell I was just another sale to them. Sure enough the following Monday morning Jacob sent me a photo of my DREAM bike. We had only discussed in theory. He put on the exact tires, frame, and even handle bars I was looking for. He did this all so fast and friendly. This man is passionate about bikes and it shows. Incredible customer service and I couldn’t be more happy. To Jacob the bike wizard, thank you so much! I am very happy and will be back. Don’t miss out on this one of a kind shop!
