Yollie, thanks for an excellent tour 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Your tour was well thought out and intentional. It's obvious that you have curated an experience rooted facts, Culture and history. Thank you for creating space for places that have been, buried, torn down and even instances where the history has been erased. Your intentionality gives life to the past and bridges the gap for the present while leaving the door open for the future. The gentle sweet spirit you possess coupled with Royce made for an unforgettable experience. We appreciate you!
Yollie's enthusiasm for Jacksonville and it's unique history is infectious. I learned so much and had a great time on on her Black History City tour. 100% would recommend to tourists and Jacksonvillians alike!
Yollie was absolutely incredible! She is extremely personable, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Her warm spirit was inviting as she poured the beautiful history of Jacksonville's Black communities and their contributions to the state, into our hearts and minds. I would give this tour 100 stars if it would let me. Thank you for being a staple and bringer of truth!
Yollie, the delightful tour guide with Explore Jax Core, provided an engaging tour of the places and neighborhoods that played a significant role in Black history and culture in Jacksonville. She told us about great people that did great things. We learned about writer and civil rights activist James Weldon Johnson, anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, civil rights leader Rutledge Pearson, humanitarian Eartha M.M. White and educator Johnnetta Cole. We visited the baseball museum at James P. Small Park, where the Jacksonville Red Caps of the Negro American League and Hank Aaron played before he became a Major League baseball star. Yollie took us through several historic Black neighborhoods and explained how the once prestigious neighborhoods were leveled to make way for highway construction, university expansion and urban renewal. Thank you, Yollie, for such an insightful tour. It was a meaningful highlight of our trip to Jacksonville.
I truly enjoyed this tour. So much history (good and bad) of African Americans in Jacksonville that I had no idea about. Yolanda is very passionate and knowledgeable about all the history of the city and you can tell she’s put in a lot of time, effort and love into this guided tour. When I visit Jacksonville again I will definitely bring others with me and do the tour again. PS I love the tour bus!!
