We love GCK accounting. They do an amazing job for all of the clients we send to them. They are meticulous and detail oriented. They focus on the numbers so you don't have to.
You're better off making a random guess on every tax form. You'll end up with fewer tax penalties than working with Geoffrey or GCK, and won't have to pay their $600 fee. If my experience wasn't CPA malpractice I don't know what is. But let's start at the beginning. We submitted all of the requested documents three weeks before deadline (they ask to have it as early as possible to "better manage busy season"). Our federal filing was submitted and accepted shortly after, but not our state filing. I called the office repeatedly from April 1 to 14 to resolve this, and also messaged through their online service. Trish at the front desk answered and every time said Geoffrey was busy but would call back when he had a chance. On April 15, after no calls back and no responses through their online service and our state taxes still not filed, I showed up at the office when they opened. Geoffrey said I needed an appointment, then took me into his office right away when I explained that I've been trying to get an appointment for weeks (so much for an immovable busy schedule). Geoffrey adjusted and filed within 10 minutes. He also realized there were reductions he never put in for the federal filing and so we'd be getting a small refund from what we had already submitted payment for on the federal filing. That should have been the moment I realized this was all done wrong. A few months later, I got a letter from the IRS saying I owed the full amount we already paid and there was no refund for over payment. I spoke with an IRS agent, and turns out our taxes were filed wrong and my wife and I weren't listed as filing together. I thought I got it settled without having to involve GCK again, but it was never corrected on my IRS account online. Through October, we got a few calls and emails a month from GCK that we owed them for tax preparation. Each time, I explained that when the job was finished I would pay. And each time, the conversation had to start from square one explaining where they went wrong because it was apparently all new information even when I was speaking to the same person. I shouldn't have been surprised considering Geoffrey couldn't even manage spelling my name right when it was in every email I sent. It took sending screenshots and copies of the IRS letters for them to understand. In November, GCK said they got everything resolved and I paid them their $600 fee. That was a mistake. Later that month, the Colorado Department of Revenue sent me a letter about underpayment on state taxes. It was remarkably close to the amount of "missed reductions" that Geoffrey said he corrected on April 15. GCK said they would handle it and sent a dispute. Three weeks later, I got another letter saying that the dispute was denied, and I now also owe $167 in delinquency fees and interest. This is still unresolved as of December 12. GCK's $600 tax preparation fee isn't all you'll need to be prepared to pay to file your taxes with them. Not to mention the endless hours lost trying to fix their mistakes. I don't know if this is just one incompetent employee or the whole company, but to play it safe, I'd avoid GCK at all costs if you value your time, money, and having your taxes done right.
We used Turbo Tax for 20 years but as our portfolio and business grew it became harder to use with each passing year. For additional context, I passed all the CPA certification requirements myself so we know a little more about taxes than the average person. This year Turbo Tax had a glitch where the Schedule E and 8582 were duplicating numbers, moving carryover losses to the wrong years, etc. Turbo Tax support was no help and said they weren't going to fix the glitch this year. We finally decided to bring in a CPA and reached out to GCK Accounting. It took 2 hours to diagnose and undo the damage that Turbo Tax had done. We couldn't have figured it out without Geoff and he even tried to decline payment and just wanted an honest review. We of course paid him for his time and were more than happy to write this review. Thank you Geoff for giving us the peace of mind to know our taxes were filed properly. Look forward to working with you again next year. No more Turbo Tax for us!
GCK and the team have been nothing short of amazing! Taxes have always been such an intimidating process however Geoff has always taken the stress off of my plate and walked me through the process. Trish has always been incredibly kind and knowledgeable answering all of my questions. Thank you GCK!!!
I've been using GCK Accounting for several years now. Jon is always very helpful and responsive. He supports my small business with his expert advice and has provided insight on an inheritance my siblings and I received after my mother passed. I am grateful for Jon.
