We have seen Dr. Godfrey and many GHPA docs since my oldest child was born 8 years ago. Dr. Godfrey is kind, patient, never in a rush, and above all, a calming presence to this sometimes anxious mama! :) He is always attentive to my questions at well visits, but more importantly, when we’ve come in with some more acute issues, he has always been able to guide us in the right direction. He quickly diagnosed my first with torticollis and referred us early for PT, helped me through a scary time with newborn RSV, and referred us to the ER after he suspected appendicitis in the office — he was right. He even called that night to check on my son in the hospital. I’ve come to really trust him over these 8 years and am thankful for all of the experience (the sheer volume of kids and conditions, illnesses, etc.) that he has seen over many years. Thanks, Dr. G!!
We've been going to GHP for almost 10 years and can't say enough about how great this practice is. Our children see Dr. Godfrey and couldn't be happier. He is so patient and engaged every time we visit, whether it's the big yearly visit or if we go for just a cold. He really takes the time to understand any concerns and the children really love him. When there was a potential growth issue when our youngest was a baby, he immediately jumped into action and helped us get seen by the correct specialists. Luckily, it turned out to be nothing but his attention to detail, bedside manner and intelligence can't be beat. As far as the practice is concerned, the other Drs are all amazing. If you can't get into your normal Dr, appts are always available with the other Drs. The nurses are beyond wonderful and the front office staff is very friendly. They offer weekend hours both days and have Drs on call 24 hours. We rarely sit in the waiting longer than 5 minutes. They are honest about their policies from day 1, which we have greatly appreciated. If you are looking for an outstanding pediatric office, we can't recommend GHP, but especially Dr. Godfrey, enough.
We have been going to GHP for nearly 14 years at this point. All 3 of my children have been seen by different doctors at various times for illnesses, but our primary dr, Dr. Walters is a rock star pediatrician. We have always felt cared for, never rushed and received appropriate treatments and advice. This practice is pro-science and I very much appreciate that they follow science and offer advice based on evidenced-based research. Highly recommend!
My first born has never been the same since he received way too many vaccines in one visit, SIX to be exact, at this practice. Years later we are finally getting to the root cause of the issues he has. We were behind on our vax schedule as I was pregnant with my second child, at the time, and had Hyperemesis gravidarum. Dr. Godfrey was very adamant that spacing out was the wrong move. I questioned why it had to be all at once, asked if we could do them over a few weeks. He questioned my ability to parent. He told me that would be more traumatizing for my child. He made me feel like an idiot because I asked questions but didn’t have a medical degree, therefore my questions were invalid. He strong armed me and said they’d drop my child as a patient, if we weren’t up to date. Mind you, not anti vax just didn’t want to overwhelm my child’s system. As a first time parent, all of the above was very intense and I was in uncharted territory. I left crying and never went back. I wish I would have done more research and not allowed this “physician” to derail my motherly intuition. It would have saved me years of guilt, heartbreak, and our child so much adversity. Find a pediatrician who isn’t arrogant, doesn’t see you child as a $ sign, one who listens and addresses concerns without being condescending. Find a pediatrician that believes in informed consent. I was not given proper information about what the 6 different vaccines would do to my 18month old, at the time. They said he’d be “fine”. He hasn’t been “fine” since. Shame on this man and this practice. I hope the money this practice received from the vaccines they gave my child are enough to ease the guilt they should feel for absolutely wrecking my child’s ability to function normally. Stay away.
Both of my sons have been seeing Dr. Buie for many years. When my son was 6, his dentist suggested that my son had sleep apnea and needed to see an occupational therapist for teeth grinding. He suggested we talk to our pediatrician about this. Dr. Buie dismissed us and said we were likely being scammed. Our family is very pro-doctors and science, and are aware that lots of medical professionals out there take advantage of families so we listened to her. My son started to have severe behavior problems so we decided to push a little more on the sleep apnea assessment. After pushing, it turned out my son did in fact have sleep apnea and needed his tonsils removed. Our relationship with Dr. Buie continued, we would have a concern and she’d brush it off. My son’s emotional disturbances got worse and we went to therapists for years and tried all the medications and behavioral programs. Nothing worked. When I suggested to Dr. Buie we test him for something medical that could be causing this, she refused. After many calls and demands she finally agreed to test him and sure enough he had an autoimmune condition that was causing brain inflammation. All he needed was an antibiotic and his behavioral problems he had suffered from for YEARS were gone. I am now looking back and thinking about all the concerns that I brought to her over the years that could have been signs and could be issues that she dismissed. This doctor failed my son. And the thing I can’t stop thinking about, when she performed the test for my son after I fought for her to do it, she told me that there had been a family there that same day asking for the same test and she had told them no. I hope that this family reads this and finds another doctor. I hope that everyone who has been dismissed by Dr. Buie can find another doctor and a second opinion. Families that are already struggling should have the support of their doctor, not have to fight to get care their children deserve. Update: As a form of retaliation for this review, Dr. Buie and Green Hills pediatrics will no longer treat my children.
