What a SCAM! Requested house insurance on Hippo.com. Got a quote which happy with and they said someone will call. Someone Matt S called. He was not available when I called back, so a different person helped me out. Their quote was more than 50% more than the online quote. No wonder you cannot complete it online as it is not a real quote! What a waste of time!
After years of dealing with these people, Amber B and the company finally did me in. The home insurer they paired me with was scamming me, and my “agent” effectively said deal with the insurance company directly—not our problem. This was my first negative experience with an insurer, so I had no idea Hippo (I) used unscrupulous insiders and (II) viewed any problem as the customer’s problem. Amber was pretty much the most unprofessional person I ever worked with there. I gave it time because I know everyone starts somewhere, but I saw no improvement after a year. And she had no interest with helping me deal with the scammy homeowners insurer she paired me with when things went south. Think twice.
If I could give zero stars, I would. Hippo Insurance is nothing short of a scam. They deny almost every claim and refuse to provide coverage even when it is clearly owed under the policy. My AC leaked and flooded into my garage, destroying my inventory, my daughter’s closet, and leaving everything covered in mold. The remediation costs alone were over $2,500, plus a $1,000 electricity bill from the equipment. Drywall repairs are estimated at $5,000—and yet Hippo only issued me a laughable $1,945 on a policy with $300,000 in coverage. They have refused to pay the mold remediation company, leaving me stuck with the bill. Their adjuster screamed at me on the phone, refused to transfer me to a supervisor, and when I emailed to report the behavior, no one responded—except the same rude adjuster telling me my claim is “partly denied” and that no further payments will be made. This company is a total sham. They take your premiums and abandon you when disaster strikes. Avoid Hippo at all costs if you actually want protection or peace of mind.
I sent two emails informing Hippo that I will not be renewing my policy. The emails were ignored. Hippo then cancelled my policy due to nonpayment.
I genuinely hope the CEO reads these reviews, I was on my way to write my review only to find SEVERAL OTHERS are having the same type of experience. The company is hiring just anybody to work the phones, and it’s ruining the brand's reputation. I received a quote via email for $1.9K—but it didn’t include the company name, so I called to clarify. I was connected to an account manager, who lied on the phone and said "He's a manager" after I asked for him to walk me through something that didn't make sense to me (LMAO??).....his name is Matthew Framal, who became oddly combative over my mailing address for an already generated quote—that by the way on the phone he shared is $1.67K. Then I get a call back from someone named Jordan (no title, no professionalism whatsoever), accusing me of giving false information and vaguely asking “why” I called. No de-escalation skills, no logic—just unnecessary drama. After I laid out the facts, his response was: “Don’t call this company again.” WHAT?! This whole experience was a joke, for a simple email. Zero accountability. Zero customer service. And zero common sense.
