This hospital demonstrated repeated issues with staff conduct, medical negligence, and dismissive treatment throughout my stay. Several staff members, including MHTs, displayed aggressive behavior that directly contributed to emotional distress rather than patient safety or stabilization. On multiple occasions, staff refused to provide their names when requested, which is inappropriate and unlawful in a medical setting. I documented and dated incidents daily, as well as observed consistent patterns of staff disregarding patient rights and bending policy to suit convenience rather than care. The level of negligence and lack of accountability I witnessed is deeply concerning. Without immediate and serious structural changes, this facility is putting itself at significant legal risk. That said, there are a very few staff members who genuinely deserve recognition. The male MHTs who were non-aggressive and compassionate — including Remmy, Ayo, and Deon — were professional and respectful. Patient Advocate Remi deserves special recognition for consistently demonstrating integrity, advocacy, and a willingness to go above and beyond for patients. He exemplifies what this role should be and deserves acknowledgment and a raise. Unfortunately, these individuals are the exception, not the rule. Overall, this hospital fails to meet basic standards of compassionate and ethical care. Statements alone are not enough — real, enforceable changes are urgently needed.
Hospital sent my son here because it was the first place with a bed available. I wanted to believe that the bad reviews were just people being dramatic. I was told I would receive a call from the doctor within 24-48 hours. We are on day 4, still no call. I have been calling all day. When sent to the unit to speak to my son someone would pick and hang up. Now I am yet again on hold to speak to anyone at all. Called and left messages to try to get him transferred but I have to speak with them to do that. They were excited that my insurance would cover everything and now I can’t get in touch with them.
If I could give zero stars, I would. This facility caused me tremendous stress during a very difficult time with my son. I already had an open CPS case before he was admitted, and I made it very clear that I was waiting for instructions from my CPS worker regarding his placement. Instead of communicating clearly, the staff repeatedly threatened to call CPS for abandonment, even though I had already called CPS myself hours earlier and had a report number documenting my concerns. I explained multiple times that I am homeless, caring for five other children, and that my son has a history of aggression, property damage, and unsafe behavior. Instead of offering support, I felt judged, pressured, and spoken to disrespectfully. As a parent trying to follow the law and protect ALL of my children, the treatment I received here was extremely hurtful. I also had to pay over $623 while homeless just to ensure my son could get to a safe location with his father, plus the facility expected me to pay $50+ each way for Lyft transportation when I had no financial means. I have reached out to legal resources and will be consulting with an attorney. I have documentation of my CPS report and all attempts I made to get help and clarity. My experience here made an already traumatic situation even worse, and I would not recommend this facility to families who are already in crisis and need compassion, communication, and support.
So far, I must give this hospital a 5 star. First, my daughter, my angel, was admitted to this hospital. She is getting the help she needs. Her only complaint was that one of the nurses was rude to her. Outside of that, she's okay and safe. She is getting the help she needs and she is making friends. We love our daughter and want her to come home so she can start working on being a better version of herself. She has an excellent support system at home and with school I homeschool her with. The school is even going over and beyond to make sure she has a great support system with the crisis counselor and her teachers when she gets home. Second, Mr. Julio, I am so grateful for his compassionate heart. He greeted me with the biggest and warmest smile. He even gave me a complement for being a loving caring mother. I can appreciate Ms. Daisy for being professional, polite and caring in making sure the products that I brought to the hospital that I brought back home to do my daughter's hair was safe to use. Both, Mr. Julio and Ms. Daisy did a wonderful job in reassuring the kids' safety there. I can appreciate that. Lastly, I am happy with the hospital and was told by my husband that our daughter is in the best place in Houston by family members of other patients who were there as well, to see their loved ones. As a mother/grandmother, because we adopted her, that calmed my nerves due to this being the first time we've had to do something like this. My daughter is thriving, and I am ready for her to come home. She stated that the beds are comfortable, and she is okay and ready to come home too. We are going to comply with the protocol that they have in place where the length of stay is concerned. Prayerfully, our daughter will be discharged on Sunday or Monday of next week, which will make it 7 or 8 days of her being there. If she is being taken care of and not being harmed or abused in any way by staff or nurses or the doctors at the hospital, we're okay. I also want the hospital to know that we love our daughter and want what's best for her, and if any harm or abuse comes to her in any way, we have no problems in getting it rectified. As her mother and grandmother, I will do whatever it takes to protect our daughter. I'm her advocate and will do whatever it takes legally to make sure she stays safe while she is in there. Thank you, Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, for taking care of our daughter and the great staff you have working there in allowing me to talk to our daughter anytime I want while she is there if she's not in any group therapy etc. We will continue with outpatient therapy for her with the hospital and the therapy and psychiatry that we already have in place at home. Thank you, Mrs. Felicia Broussard
I am very disappointed will this “hospital” All doors are locked in the visitors area. Even to leave. Not very visitor friendly. Very unprofessional communication between staff and very confusing situation. Disgusting how they make us feel like we are wrong for coming when we were told. They keep changing the discharge date. We are on our 3rd date change. Lying to your patients is not a good. Why continue to keep her if she’s fine and why tell her she’s getting out if she’s not. I consider this Fraudulence insurance claims. Wrongfully locking a minor up should be illegal I will be speaking legal counsel for the deprivation of my little sister. Hopefully they close soon.
