First time dining here. There were three of us, and they seated us at a very tiny round table. The atmosphere was great, and the service was good. We ordered a few different rolls to try. The hotate roll was great—something different and very flavorful. The Bachi roll was just okay. We tried about 6–8 different nigiri; everything was good overall. The unagi was good, but there wasn’t enough eel sauce, so all you could taste was black pepper. My 7-year-old wanted to try the ramen. The noodles were cooked just right, but the soup base was bland—my child even said, “It’s tasteless,” which is disappointing for a $20 ramen. By the way, they automatically charge a 20% service fee. We were surprised. Compared to hundreds of other sushi restaurants in Denver, I wouldn’t come back here.
Kumoya is definitely one of Denver’s hidden gems. I never expect great sushi so far from the ocean, but this place genuinely surprised me. The interior is warm and inviting, with two different seating areas: one more formal and the other more relaxed. We chose the open bar right in front of the chefs. Normally in spots like this you expect to see a traditional Japanese chef with decades of experience, and here the team looked a bit different, but it didn’t affect the quality at all. The service felt Michelin level. From the menu we ordered the toro tartare, assorted sushi, a few sushi rolls (I’m usually not a fan of rolls but my boyfriend is), miso cod, and wagyu. The presentation was beautiful and fitting for every dish. I’ve always loved the combination of toro and black caviar, but I didn’t expect to find it executed this well in Denver. Their tartare was outstanding, and every plate that arrived at our table was a true pleasure. I highly recommend coming to this restaurant and trying the chef’s recommendations. If I were a Michelin inspector, I would absolutely include them in the guide.
This Japanese restaurant that delivered an elegant dining experience. The atmosphere was calm, refined, and beautifully designed, making it easy to settle in and enjoy the evening. The service stood out as exceptional, with staff who were attentive without hovering and knowledgeable at least for the questions we had. The food itself was excellent, prepared with care and presented with the kind of detail you hope for in a higher-end Japanese restaurant. The food is very authentically prepared by chefs right before your eyes at the bar. Just a really fun place. It is on the pricey side, but the overall quality, ambiance, and service made it feel worth it. A great choice for a quiet, night out.
A truly remarkable experience. The staff was so friendly in greeting us, all congratulating us on a happy anniversary and making the night feel special without distractions. The food was spectacular, each dish elegantly plated with wonderful flavor combinations that brought it all together with each bite. The chefs clearly were passionate about their creations, describing the work that went into it and the origin of the fish selected. The drinks were so creative and specially crafted, all named after awesome dragon ball characters (huge plus for anime nerd like myself). This might be our favorite Japanese restaurant in Denver!
A friend of mine invited me out to a girls night over sushi at Kumoya, which I had never heard of. My sushi experience in Denver so far had been mediocre at best. But Kumoya changed everything! The sushi was so fresh, buttery in texture and literally melted in your mouth. I don’t know how else to describe it. The sushi chefs were very friendly and knowledgeable with regard to their craft, they didn’t gatekeep the secrets to their super fresh sushi either (Overnight fish shipments from Japan, the way the fish were put to rest and all). The atmosphere was rich and lively, you can tell the employees really enjoy their jobs. Annie and Corey were the stars of the night! (Both were so bubbly and great conversationalists- Corey let my friends and I guess his name, a bit of a playful thing we do!) 10/10 would recommend for friends night outs, date nights, or a solo sushi adventure. Will be back!
