I have been going to Kim at Last Tangle for ~10 years, and I couldn't be happier (or my hair healthier). Kim is a fantastic (and painstaking) stylist --- taking care to understand what you want/what will work for you and then making it happen. My stick-straight hair now has life and body (and cooperates with me)!
Kim is amazing! I’ve been to her a few times for haircuts, and she always does a great job. I really appreciate how she talks through the cut—and her gardening tips are a fun bonus! update: Kim continues to be amazing! I come out feeling like I have new hair every time.
I went to this salon last Sunday for a simple chocolate brown color and the entire experience was a mess from start to finish. I showed a clear video of the exact color I wanted. My hair is dark brown and previously processed, and I made it very clear I was willing to do whatever steps were necessary to get the correct shade. Instead of being upfront about the process, the stylist went back and forth with me, mixed the color, and ended up giving me light brown roots and BLACK mid-shaft to ends. Completely uneven and unusable. When I checked the price, they tried to charge me $260 for a service that on their own website is listed as $120 for color and $70 for a “blowout.” A blowout… meaning they were planning to charge me $70 just to dry my hair after rinsing the color out? Would they have sent me home with soaking wet hair if I didn’t pay the extra $70? The price breakdown made absolutely zero sense. I even offered to pay $100 out of courtesy and the stylist told me, “We do haircuts for $100, that’s nothing.” Meanwhile, the service I received wasn’t worth $30. I rescheduled with their stylist Ola for a proper color correction. I made it clear I was fine with color removal or bleaching — whatever was needed. After an emergency caused me to miss the appointment, I called back to explain and was told she no longer wanted me as a client. Fine. I asked who else could properly do the job and they pointed me to the owner, Jeff. Then I was told he requires a $400 deposit. I assumed it was because of the missed appointment, so I paid it. Today the nicer receptionist called to confirm and said I was scheduled for partial highlights, which is NOT what I booked. When I mentioned the $400 deposit, she immediately questioned why I was charged that at all. I checked the website, and sure enough, deposits of $200–$400 are ONLY for extensions or smoothing treatments — services I’m not even receiving. I asked for a simple price estimate for Sunday since the service would be taken out of the deposit, and NO ONE — not the owner, not either receptionist — could give me even a ballpark number. How does a salon take a $400 deposit for a service they can’t even price or describe? Between the overcharging attempt the first visit, the shady deposit, the mixed-up service, and the complete lack of professionalism, this place is chaotic and dishonest. And the funniest part? Dominican salons charge $60 for a full wash, treatment, roller set, AND blowout — not $70 just to use a round brush and a blow dryer. The photos below is the color I requested and that’s what I left the salon with. Oh and I almost forgot the final straw was upon my confirmation of my appointment for this upcoming Sunday for 12pm I was told the owner Jeff requested I come in a hour earlier than I booked and PAID $400 for.. I traveled all the way from Maryland (45 mins) the first time and this time made sure the time slot was comfortable enough for me to get there on time, the request for a push back felt like an attempt to keep my deposit, and when I was rescheduling after I paid this deposit over the phone the receptionist made sure to call me back and say “he also wanted you to know if you miss your appointment the deposit is non refundable” I HAVE TO LAUGH
