I had a frustrating experience at this Michael’s, which seems in line with recent reviews… I shopped in store and collected all my items, only to realize at checkout that the coupon I wanted was online-only. I asked if it could be applied in store or if I could place the online order and take the items with me since they were already collected. The answer was no, with no effort to find a reasonable workaround. So I quickly placed the online order and suggested leaving the cart nearby or with them, so the items could be used to fill the order (some were the last ones in stock), but the manager refused, saying he couldn’t guarantee which employee would pull the order or coordinate it, which feels odd coming from a store manager. There was also an issue with my email having a typo. Even though my phone number was on the order, I was told they would not call me when it was ready and that I would have to keep calling the store myself. Because I was short on time, I told him I wouldn’t be able to put the items back and that staff would need to handle it which seemed like an inefficient use of time for everyone. In response, the manager told me my comments were “not necessary,” which felt dismissive and escalated the situation. This could have been resolved quickly with basic customer service and flexibility. Instead, the experience felt rigid, unhelpful, and frustrating. Very disappointing.
I'm never coming back to this damn store. Their service and customer support are the worst I've ever seen, and even worse is making an online purchase. I bought a simple painting online, and it said it would be ready for pickup that same day. Lies. Two days passed, and I never received the "ready for pickup" notification. But even worse, on the same day I made the online purchase, I went to the store to ask, and they told me they had a high volume of orders and were behind schedule. But I saw the store empty, and the employees weren't doing anything. The next day, I went back and got the same answer. I went to a shelf and saw the painting I wanted on display and asked if I was already there and the painting was right in front of us, why they wouldn't give it to me and close my order. But they just said no, that I had to wait to receive the notification that my online order was ready, and that this notification was taking up to a week. I grabbed the painting, paid for it, and left. What for? Damn, their website says same-day delivery, but the store does nothing to expedite those purchases and instead provides terrible service.
Service at this location has degraded considerably over recent years. There’s an older gentleman employee who speed walks everywhere, consistently cutting me off at aisle intersections. Further, while the younger lady at custom framing is expeditious, skilled, and welcoming, the older lady was under-informed of the process and made me feel invisible. When I commented on my order, she responded by explaining that she was talking to her manager and not me. The entire experience was contrasted by that of the previous customer, who received warm conversation and thorough service, which leads me to suspect that were I similar demographically I might not be writing this. I’ll purchase my frames elsewhere from hereon.
After Joann closed, I began shopping here due to Michaels acquiring their private label brands and property. Restrooms are horrible. There is no soap and toilet paper. Everything is self-check out with a row of kiosks. There are hardly any employees around to help. I struggled with checking out for a while trying to use my coupons from my app until I asked an employee, who acted as if she was only there to collect the paycheck. There is no customer service at all. I love that Michaels bought Joann's brands but it is not the same as I was used to as a Joann shopper. Michaels, if you want to win over Joann customers, step up your game and provide good service for us!
This Michaels is located in the Quarry Market to the right of Whole Foods. You can find just about everything here for arts and crafts projects. The store is not laid out well, however. For example, you will find painting canvases in different sections of the store. I would expect that all the art items would be together but that is not the case. They do not have materials for making custom button pins, just FYI. The ladies bathroom needed attention the day we visited 7-9-2021. I was going to post the bathroom photos but decided not to gross anyone out. Look for clearance items all over the store. There is not a single clearance section. Price scanners come in handy in the floral arrangement aisle because many of the flowers did not have a price. The sales associate that helped me was nice and very knowledgeable. It's easy to forget what you went on there for. There's something for everyone especially when shopping with your children ;)
