⭐️⭐️ (or ⭐️ — your call) Spa Day Gone Wrong — Unsafe Facial, but Professional Management Response My mom spent $754 on a spa day for the two of us at Spavia Alamo and drove down from Temple to spend the day together. We booked facials, massages, body wraps, and scalp oil treatments. I was genuinely looking forward to this. Unfortunately, my facial experience was extremely poor and honestly unsafe. During my facial with Lexi, I clearly communicated—both verbally and on my intake form: • I am allergic to citrus • I had just had a root canal and needed gentleness on the right side of my face • I have sensitive skin • I asked her to work around my mascara • I also disclosed that I am a licensed esthetician with 20 years of experience Despite this, hot steam was placed very close and directly on the left side of my face, causing immediate discomfort. I had to ask her—twice—to back it up because it was too hot. She proceeded with what appeared to be extractions, though I have very good skin and there was absolutely no reason for extractions at all. What followed felt less like professional extractions and more like aggressive scraping. For roughly 15 minutes, she repeatedly went over the same areas—especially my forehead along the hairline, the bridge of my nose, and other sensitive areas—using what felt like a flat, metal, knifelike instrument, scraping the skin over and over. I stayed quiet, hoping it would end, but she continued revisiting the same areas. She then applied a citrus-based mask, despite my allergy, which caused intense burning—likely worsened by the open abrasions created during the scraping. The steam was turned back on again, placed too close, and I had to ask—again—for it to be moved back. A hot towel was then applied to my already inflamed skin (cool towels would have been far more appropriate), followed by a facial massage that was far too aggressive on the side of my face where I had specifically requested gentleness due to recent dental work. That side of my face eventually went numb. The service ended with heavy moisturizer applied all over my face, including my eyes, and a strongly scented lip balm. There was no calming protocol or acknowledgement of the irritation. After the facial, I waited 15 minutes before the manager/owner came to speak with me. She was very kind, professional, and accommodating. She informed me that my massage therapist had been in an accident and would not be able to complete my massage or wrap that day. While accidents happen—and I truly hope the therapist is okay—there were no replacements available. I explained my facial experience to the manager, who could clearly see the scrapes and irritation on my face (photo attached). She handled the situation appropriately by comping my facial, crediting my mom for her facial, and taking $20 off my mom’s massage, which I appreciated. My mom continued her scheduled services with Joseph, who provided her massage and body wrap, and she absolutely loved them. I also rebooked a future massage with Joseph based on her experience. However, I was left sitting in the waiting area from 1:54 PM until 3:30 PM, waiting for my mom to finish her services. Sitting there for nearly an hour and a half, uncomfortable and visibly irritated, was frustrating and unnecessary. While management handled the situation well, the facial itself fell far below professional standards. Proper intake review, contraindication awareness, and client safety are non-negotiable—especially at this price point. Update- had a massage with Joseph 1 week later and it was great! He definitely does a DEEP tissue if that’s what you are looking for. Service was wonderful
The staff was nice, but unfortunately I would not return—at least not for a prenatal massage. Ginger is commonly recommended for expecting mothers, yet my massage therapist was unable to use it due to an allergy, which limited the experience. The massage bed was also very uncomfortable, making it difficult to relax. Upon arrival, the lobby had a strong unpleasant odor, which staff explained was coming from a neighboring suite, and the restroom facilities were having issues as well. Additionally, I completed extensive intake paperwork detailing my music preference, scent preference, and targeted areas of focus, yet I was repeatedly questioned about all of it. The music and scented lotion were especially disappointing, as those were clearly indicated beforehand and not followed. Overall, I genuinely feel like I wasted my money and will not be returning.
Got a gift card for Christmas and called to schedule a massage and facial for today. Looking forward to a relaxing day. We got here I got my facial and then was informed massage would have to be booked later because they didn't have anyone to do it today. Not one word was mentioned about this on the phone call when scheduling the appointment. So now I get to drive 45 minutes to get here for a massage. Absolutely not coming back after the Giftcards used up.
Highly recommend! :) I’ve been to several massage places over the years, and I’m usually easy to please, so I almost always leave happy. But this year my husband gifted me a Spavia monthly membership, and omg… it has been a total game changer. I’ve loved getting to know the staff, and every visit has been consistently amazing. I especially want to give a HUGE shoutout to Simmy. She is truly exceptional. I’m definitely a curious chatty cathy during my massages, and she always takes the time to listen, answer my questions, and actually educate me. She goes above and beyond every single time. She’s a gem and has completely raised my expectations for what a great massage experience should be. Pro tip: The monthly membership can be shared. My husband and I alternate using it, and it’s been such a great little perk for both of us.
I had an acne facial at Spavia, and it was such a relaxing and luxurious experience. The atmosphere was calm from start to finish, and my skin felt so clean and moisturized afterward. The esthetician was very professional and did an amazing job. she really took her time and made sure I was comfortable throughout. Now I’m just waiting to see how my skin reacts over the next few days, but so far, I’m very happy with the results! Definitely recommend.
