We had a fabulous double date here! Our server Charlie was absolutely lovely and we had the best time. The food and service were both excellent and the decor/ambiance of the restaurant was spectacular. I love all of the lanterns on the ceiling and the music. We tried so many dishes and drinks on the menu and everything was delicious! Intentionally smaller dishes designed for sharing so you and your group can order numerous items from the menu. Specifically we had… COLD -Spicy tuna crispy rice (comes with 3 but you can add a piece for each person in your group) - Hamachi jalepeno crudo - Thai salmon sashimi (The sauce with this was soooo yummy) - Tuna Crudo HOT -Seared Japanese scallops (the cutest presentation) - Garlic noodles with grilled chicken (sounds simple but this was delicious) - fried whole branzino (cooked to perfection and surprisingly easy to share for 4 people based on how they serve everything) - Crying tiger (a must if you love steak) SWEET -Matcha donut -Mango sticky rice Finally, we got numerous beer, wine, and cocktails! I highly recommend making a reservation and coming here for dinner some time. :) :) :)
After dining at the "Met Him at a Bar" restaurant I walked across the street to "The Night We Met." And although I had just eaten, I ordered the Fries W/ Curry Ketchup & Curry Aioli, Thai salmon sashimi toped with garlic chips and the garlic green beens. The Salmon was fresh, thinly slices and lathered in a luxurious flavorful green sauce. The fries were lightly seasoned and not overly salted. The green beans were good but could've used a bit more garlic. And for dessert the Deconstructed Mango Sticky Rice was definitely on point. While there, I met one of the owners, (Mindy). She was cleaning and clearing tables, interacting with guests and ensuring everyone was enjoying their meal. This is something rarely seen of ownership but speaks volumes of her commitment to the business, her staff and the customers. The restaurant is small but quaint offering guests an intimate yet relaxed atmosphere. The Asian theme is found throughout with birdcages and round paper lighted fixtures, affixed to the ceiling. The servers are well dressed in black attire, which only adds to the establishment's overall elegance. Highly recommend!!!!!
La Brea's newest restaurant is a Thai-inspired Asian parlour. The moment you walk in you're taken away by the stunning bar and the warm intimate atmosphere with glowing lanterns on the ceiling. We ordered Mindy Lee's Matcha Martini (Vodka, Matcha, Yuzu foam) Hard to Get (vodka, gin, lime leaf, mint, habanero, passion fruit) the matcha martini was a crowd pleaser! For food we started with the scallop crudo 5/5, Garlic noodles with grilled salmon, tempura green bean fries, garlic green beans, roti with panang curry. Everything we had was delicious but the fan favorites were the scallop crudo & the roti with panang curry! Lastly, we ordered the deconstructed mango sticky rice and wow not only was this a burst of flavors but the presentation was a piece of art. Service was phenomenal, Will took care of us. Looking forward to coming back!
The Met Her family has officially taken over the corner of Fairfax and 8th. One in each corner. Kudos I thought I was being clever having dinner at 5:30, but it turns out everyone else had the same idea. It was crowded in there. I was greeted by two friendly faces at the entrance. One walked me over to my table where I waited a good 10 minutes for my perpetually late friend. It gave me just enough time to start with a drink. I got the Patience cocktail since I needed to channel some patience. The wait gave me just the right amount of time to peruse the menu. By the time my friend sat down, I had 5 items picked out. Our server, Brandon, recommended 2-3 items per person. The cold items were more on the smaller side serving wise. The hot items were bigger. We shared the following: Spicy tuna crispy rice - give me 14 of them Scallop crudo - fantastic Papaya salad - the surprise winner Hong Kong fried rice - I could’ve eaten the whole plate Fries - great sauces Broccolini - looooooooooooved The food was 10/10. Every dish that got dropped off got better tasting as we kept eating. I don’t know why we were acting brand new when we love the food at their sister establishments across the street. My personal favorite was the papaya salad. That sauce was saucing. Service was great. We added two sides at the end which both got delivered, but we noticed one of the entrees we ordered had not been dropped off. It was already the end of our meal and we were full so we figured we wouldn’t say anything in case it was a case of Brandon forgetting to put that item in. Said item (chicken garlic noods) was included in our bill so we called Brandon over before posting our payment. He of course took it off our bill and also offered to have an order of it to go at no charge. That was a nice move. We declined as we were super full. So full that we had no room for dessert. We also know we’ll be back so we’ll for sure order them noods. Thank you Brandon for taking the initiative. Can’t wait to be back with more friends so we can eat the whole menu.
Every time this talented, creative restauranteur / entrepreneur duo open a new restaurant it becomes my new favorite Los Angeles restaurant. First: Ambience - when you enter it's like an oasis / escape from the bustling La Brea corner it's on into a unique Asian-themed cozy, dimly lit, romantic hideaway with cool chill music playing UNTIL whatever talented LIVE JAZZ group begins playing in the corner. Don't worry, the music, and general ambient noise level are softened by the thousand plus paper lantern hanging from the ceiling, so you can hear yourself, and your date. It's so gratifying to see a place who's design is so intentional, and well planned and thought out - the interior designer I learned designed some of the hippest bars in Asia and this is his first LA effort and a distinctive success. THE FOOD: generally Asian themed and can't believe the quality and timely manner the dishes come out of the kitchen for a place so recently opened. I LOVE the grilled garlic chicken and sticky rice, the ribeye skewers, and mocha glazed donut for desert. The mixed drinks that I've had are a terrific blend of flavor and booze. Speaking of BOOZE, they have one of the most impressive walls of spirits in the entire area of mid-city Los Angeles. If you want not only a distinct setting, lovely live jazz, and enticing Asian dishes give this spot a try you won't be disappointed- btw the wagyu burger is melt in your mouth and the tempura green beans are a great way to start...
