After 34 years, our original skylight started leaking. We got estimates from 3 companies. Based on reviews, pricing, and longevity of each company, we chose The Roofing Company. From the start, the communication has been timely, thorough, and professional. James and Kris did the skylight replacement. They were on time and explained everything before and during installation. Only one snag...the incorrect trim kit was sent, but they were able to have the correct trim kit delivered within 30 minutes. Issue was resolved quickly. They cleaned up all packaging and debris. Very pleased with their work. Highly recommend this company for skylight install and replacement.
There is nothing positive I can say about this roofing company. At the end of October, my wife and I discovered a small but active leak in our slate roof. We contacted the company and Chuck came out for an estimate. Before even flying his drone, he spent time explaining how other companies “shouldn’t touch slate” and “don’t know what they’re doing.” After the drone inspection, Chuck told us our entire roof needed maintenance, new chimney flashing, and several additional repairs. He estimated the cost would be between $12,000 and $25,000. We were very clear that our priority was fixing the active leak—we are expecting new parents. Chuck said he would get us a quote ASAP and left. We then had to call multiple times just to obtain copies of the photos so we could contact our insurance company. In November, Chuck showed up again, apparently thinking he was coming out to do another estimate. We had to remind him that this visit was supposed to be to review contracts. We opted for the $12,000 option and paid $4,000 upfront. Again, we emphasized that the roof was actively leaking and we were desperate. He assured us the office would call to schedule us as soon as possible. Two days later, we received an email stating we were scheduled within a window of December 22 to January 2. We immediately called to explain that the leak was worsening and softening the ceiling and asked if there was anything they could do to help us make it safely to that timeframe. Their solution was to send a new work order—just to fix the leak—for an additional $850. That’s when it became clear something wasn’t right. We called to ask why this option had never been offered initially and why, after already handing over $4,000 of a $12,000 contract, we couldn’t expect some assistance to prevent further damage to our home. We spoke with Debbie, who said she might be able to move us up the schedule—but if we wanted the leak fixed, we still needed to pay the $850. At this point, we wanted to cancel. We were still more than three weeks away from our “scheduled window,” and the leak had already caused significant ceiling damage. Debbie then informed us—almost cheerfully—that canceling would cost 20% of the contract. Not 20% of the $4,000 deposit, but 20% of the full $12,000. There was “nothing else we could do.” She then had the audacity to suggest that we “pause” the job and wait until we “have” more money. As a final attempt to resolve this, we asked if the contract could be lowered. After another week, we received a call from the general manager, Gregg, who asked me, “Is this your first home of this age?” When I asked why they felt justified keeping $2,500 of our money for no services rendered, he replied that “the administrative work it takes to even have this phone call costs money.” So, to summarize: we waited nine weeks and paid $2,500 for literally nothing. We were treated like “demanding customers” simply for calling as our leak worsened and asking for help. We are now working with a new roofing company, who was able to walk on slate roof during the estimate process, was able to fully diagnose where the leak was coming from. Scheduled us within a 2 day range. And took our check the day the work started. I want to reiterate, the down payment was not for materials. We were never given an actual start date. Even within the December 22–January 2 window, we were told the work would likely be in the new year—leaving, at best, a single unconfirmed day. Everyone we dealt with was rude, dismissive, and acted as if a leaking roof was not really their problem. It was a surreal experience. Enjoy the free $2,500 from us. I hope it made for a great holiday.
Great so far and very professional. Chuck Simpson does his job well? We are very pleased so far, Daryl priest in Alexandria kempsville, So I would like to update my review. Chuck Simpson did an excellent job of estimating our damage and setting up the repair, then we were expecting the work to be done in late January but they called us early and Jay and MO came out early December 18th, and from what I can tell they did a very professional job. They were very professional all the way through and friendly at this point I would highly recommend them for any repairs. Thank you to the roofing company and all of their employees. Daryl priest
Very friendly, easy to work with company. Chuck came out to assess what needed to be done. He was very knowledgeable. By the time we were done, I almost wanted to ask him to stay for dinner. Very down to earth, and had great insights from all his experience. Then Jay and John came out to do the work in a timely manner. They did a great job and cleaned up the property afterwards. You know they love their job when they whistle while they work. Hope all the guys can add this to their tally, since I did it on one review to win the contest. 😊
We have used the Roofing Company for years and have always been very pleased with their professionalism and quality of work. Chuck Simpson came out this morning to assess a leak in our slate roof and he provided excellent customer service. He set us up with the long-term repair and also personally installed a temporary fix in case it rains before the repair crew arrives.
