This place was very nice. went for a friend's birthday and I must say the service was top quality. Food was decent. The venue and decor are beautiful. I look forward to coming back to enjoy the outdoor seating when it gets warmer.
FOOD 10/10. Made a reservation had to wait 20 min in the bar area no seats in one half of the bar. Service was severly lacking. We were seated and the waitress showed up right away and took our order. We didn't wait long for the order to arrive to the table. Once we received our order the whole experience went on life support with o assistance. We were not given serving spoons with our meal so we had to use forks to get the food out of the dishes which made a pretty big mess *street corn is hard to scoop with a fork and it was hard to get someone attention to go retrieve Serving spoons. We finally flagged someone down to order more rice as the amount that came with the dish wasn't enough to share. Finally our waitress comes over to confirm that the rice will be out shortly we asked about the spoons and she said oh yea sorry about that. Next, we wait for the rice nd we need our drink topped off we had to flag the waitress down again to get us more water. It is hard to sit and watch the waitress he very attentive to the tables across from us she is folding napkins as taking pictures for them etc. And we are not being attended too at all. At the price point im not expecting red carpet service, but it felt closer to the service received at a fast food resturant...which is minimal. I will not return for a special date night...the service didn't feel special.
Summary: Expect long waits even with a reservation, rushed service, and a chaotic dining environment. Delicious food and drinks, but not ideal if you’re celebrating a special occasion and care about service. Important to know, even with a reservation, you will probably still be waiting. We had a reservation for two and waited 40 minutes to be seated, with no acknowledgment or apology. Once seated, the service continued to fall short. Our server was stretched thin managing a 20-person table, and our table suffered. We were told two servers would help us, but we only ever saw one, and it was confusing. Service felt transactional with minimal check-ins, no offer of an additional cocktails, no “are we celebrating anything?”and missed details, including cocktails arriving without straws. We were seated by the kitchen, which added to the noise and chaos, and the fire department arrived during our dinner, further disrupting the experience. Food and drinks: Everything we ordered was delicious and came out quickly. The food runners were attentive and professional. We ordered the Sashimi Mexicana, Caesar salad, NY Strip Steak, Truffle Mac and Cheese, and the Taco Flight. Drinks included the Watermelon Margarita and Ghost Rider. We spent nearly $300 for an hour-long dinner for two, and this level of service is unacceptable. A manager check-in, acknowledgment of the delay, or small gesture could have easily improved the experience, but none occurred. We ultimately chose to leave and go elsewhere for dessert and drinks. With so many great restaurants in Houston, I’d recommend spending your money elsewhere for a special occasion.
We recently dined here for my son’s birthday, and from start to finish it was an amazing experience. Our server, GiGi, was bubbly, attentive, and made great recommendations. We ordered a variety of dishes and enjoyed every one of them. We did encounter one minor issue, but the manager on duty, Savannah, resolved it quickly and professionally. We truly appreciate the entire staff for making it such a wonderful night. 🎉🥳✨
➡Why we went: My husband and I went here for our 6 year Anniversary dinner. We enjoyed it. The food was very well prepared - dare I say - it was perfect. ➡Service: Our waiter warmed up to us eventually but at the beginning he seemed a tad bit cold/unwelcoming. By the end that negative energy had disappeared and he was more friendly and warm. ➡Atmosphere: The atmosphere is beautiful. Just beware that there are art images of women and there is some nudity and darkness (skeletons etc.) in those images. Those made us a bit uncomfortable. As well as the waitresses code of dressing. It is somewhat revealing. In a nutshell, it is a place for inducing physical activity ... an aphrodisiac restaurant, if you will. The music, the smells, the ambiance ... all seemed to come together to induce a higher sense of sexual awareness, if you will. One might say there are similarities that coincide with 50 Shades of Gray. ➡Hidden Ingredients?: We also felt there was something added to the food that makes you feel relaxed and/or "in the mood". We do not drink so no alcohol was involved. We also specifically requested, and made sure, we did not have any food items that had alcohol in them. However, something is added to the food. It may not be bad but we definitely felt it (all of sudden relaxed and a higher sense of sexuality). It was subtle but noticeable. If you don't have any alcohol or intoxicants in your system you may feel it, too. Just be aware. ➡A Nice Surprise: They surprised us with a free dessert with a sparkly tube. It was simple yet beautiful. We did not expect that at all. We are grateful, thank you Toca Madera. ➡Would I go back?: I'd order take-out (if possible). The food is amazing. Perfection. However, the dress code of the waitresses and female staff, along with the semi-nude artwork, gives a level of discomfort that discourages me from going inside again. ➡We recommend getting: - The salmon with brocollini as a side - The guacamole with plantain chips - The Sashimi Mexicano (raw) - & the truffle mac and cheese basically stole my heart - The ice cream and brownie on bottom was a simple dessert but the quality of the chocolate and the quality of the ice cream was top notch. ➡Highlight: There was a female performer who entertained with a fire routine. It was not close to us but we could see bits of it. It was nice. ➡Got Kids?: This is not a place for kids.
