Was very surprised that anyone could enter. Large Christmas tree was in the foyer that was decorated with ornaments children had made. It had a train going around the base of it. We didn't take a tour as we didn't have time. The dome and all the marble were very interesting.

The state capitol is both beautiful and rich in history. The rotunda especially stands out. I did see several homeless people inside escaping the cold, but they were harmless. The complimentary tour was a nice touch to offer.

I feel a bit silly reviewing a government building but that's how great this place is! Spontaneously joined the hourly free tour & was easily one of the highlights of the entire trip. It was so interesting, the tour guide was incredibly nice, well-spoken, & knowledgeable. This is a must do activity!

Free Capitol Tours 6-7 times a day and a very good guide always. Has a great Observation Deck. It’s a piece of Art and it’s great to see how his was built after it was burned down once. Great place to add to your sightseeing list in Madison and very close to State Street - Basically Downtown Madison

Impressive. Imposing. Incredible. Driving in from the interstate you don't quite know what to expect when suddenly the Dome looms into view. Wow! We drove into Madison expecting a quiet Sunday visit when we discovered "Taste of Madison" street festival was in full swing. Literally thousands of people enjoying food booths, beer and music...and the Capitol itself. I was glad to see the "People's House" open to the public so my wife and I availed ourselves to it's majesty. Beautiful rotunda, expansive staircases and hallways, the sun shone though the portals and down upon us all. (Wisely, most bathrooms within were closed. Unfortunately so was the Observation Deck) The grounds outside were well groomed and enjoyed by hundred of folks who had set up lawn chairs to enjoy the fest. As usual I recommend if you're within range of a State Capitol you need to visit. This one is worth it.
