I have been attending Bucktown Music Kindermusik classes weekly with my daughter, who is now 2, since she was 10 months old, and we couldn't recommend the school more highly. Ms. Patty Kennedy, as others here have said, is a warm and thoughtful teacher. The Kindermusik curriculum fosters child development through a balance of routine and creativity. Students come to learn the structure of the classes -- welcome songs, instrument demos, storytime, etc-- and this ritual provides the important repetitions toddlers need to learn, and this predictability also helps them learn to gently navigate transitions. Having participated in these classes for over a year, I have a whole new appreciation for the way music can be a tool for learning linguistic and movement skills, as well concepts of bodily control and social development. The last thing I will share about Bucktown Music is that this class has been an important space for me, as a stay at home parent, to meet and get to know a community caregivers and other children over a long period of time. We are so glad to have this space in our neighborhood.
We have been bringing our baby to Bucktown Music since he was 6 months old. He loves all of the interactive play, story time and of course dancing and singing! Patty is such a sweet person and you can see how much she loves being with the kids. I am always impressed how she can remember special details about kids and parents. The classes are back to back and she is there to greet everyone by name and comment on their new learned skills. She is so enthusiastic and encouraging with the kids. As a parent, the ability to skip classes and add makeup classes or jump in for a bonus class whenever a spot is available works really well with our busy schedule. This is a special place with wonderful teachers and our babe looks forward to coming every week!
My kids have been going to Bucktown Music for years and have had such a great experience! It is a great way to get them into music and moving. It is such a warm and welcoming place. Ms Patty is a wonderful teacher. The kids have enjoyed her classes tremendously and she truly has a gift with little ones and music! Would definitely recommend if you are looking to get your child into a class!
This review is quite overdue - but I wanted to make sure I didn't spare a detail in how wonderful our experience with Bucktown Music's Kindermusik classes has been. Our 2-year old son’s favorite days of the week are the days he gets to go to his Kindermusik classes at Bucktown Music. Since he was an infant, he has been going to Ms. Patty’s classes, and not only enjoying the fun music and open space to dance around, but also learning important skills around listening, taking turns, sharing, and socializing with other kids. The classes are small and intimate, the perfect size for little ones who get easily overwhelmed in large group settings. Each day’s class is different, with new songs and time to explore new instruments and movement. We have never had an issue with getting into the classes we want, and any emails to the office receive very swift responses. After registering for an initial session for your child’s age group and preferred day of the week, you can easily register for additional “bonus” classes where there are open spots available. We typically end up sending my son with our nanny to class twice a week, which is a great value for what we pay monthly. Now onto the most important piece of the equation: Ms. Patty herself. Patty has a beautiful voice, and is simply a lovely person with a very special gift for working with children. Our son, Cooper, has grown very attached to her and loves to follow along with her songs, stories, and instruction in class. He's always choosing to sit in her lap, dance with her, and sit front and center during story time. Thanks to the constant stream of photos and videos our nanny shares with us, we get the chance to see how close their bond has become, and it is truly heartwarming to see. We highly recommend Bucktown Music and would encourage any family with babies and young children to check out the Kindermusik classes, and the magic that is Ms. Patty.
We love the Kindermusik program at Bucktown music. I started taking my daughter 3 years ago when she was 6 months old and now our 18 month old son is enrolled as well. The class is so engaging for little ones and has shaped our kids' continued interest in music. Patty is such a warm and energetic teacher - we're so grateful!
