My friend and I just stopped in to browse while we were waiting for a hair appointment next door. I'm so glad we did! City Books has such a unique selection that is clearly curated in a thoughtful way. The person behind the counter was extremely helpful and kind. We had a great time and will definitely be back.
Love this small business. New and used books. Section for local authors. Helpfully service. We were offered tea, on a really cold day. Would definitely recommend.
Great little used and remaindered bookstore. A ton of interesting books packed into a small space. Had a great chat with the owner, picked up a short story collection and left with a list of places to see and go eat!
Arlan is one of my favorite people in Pittsburgh. The work she's done to make City Books a world-class bookstore, community literary space, and inclusive environment is outstanding. The selection is carefully curated yet remarkably broad for a smaller space—there are plenty of both contemporary and classic hidden gems across genres and cultures—and she is always eager to chat books, recommend books, and receive recommendations in return. I've walked out of there with books I'd never heard of and books I'd been dying to read for years. Excellent local selection, too. Every thoughtful reader who's curious about the people and the world around them can find themselves in the titles on these shelves. We've been going in or buying online for years and hope to keep going for many more.
City Books is an absolute gem for any book lover! The cozy atmosphere invites you to linger, and chat. All are welcome. The carefully curated selection ranges from classics to contemporary favorites and the used books are so incredible as well— find that book lost to time you used to obsess over in middle school or a very niche and specific poetry book you didn’t think could possibly still exist. Or if all that fails the owner will order one for you special. Arlan is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, always ready to recommend your next great read. I especially love the cozy reading nooks where you can dive into a book right on the spot with a cup of tea Plus, they host fantastic events that foster a vibrant community. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, City Books is a must-visit destination! Highly recommend!
