Fukumoto is a traditional Japanese sushi restaurant in the heart of East Austin. I have been to Fukumoto probably a dozen times - sat at the bar, at tables and at the sushi bar. Everything on this menu is extremely fresh, reasonably priced, and mirrors that of Japanese traditions. I would recommend the orange fed snapper paired with Dassai 45 sake. This is a staple in the Austin sushi scene.
If there was a rating for price - I would give them $$$ because it's very easy to spend more than you meant to here. Food is tapas style and 3-skewers will cost you ~$18 - $24. Each skewer is just a few bites. Unless you have money to burn, I would recommend not showing up hungry. However, if you brought your appetite prepare to enjoy the evening! There are so many tidbits to try and everything we did order was juicy and flavorful and interesting. I would go back just for the ube tiramisu, but also for the salmon nigiri, hokkaido uni, and tsukune. Even the drinks were delicious (the ILY So Matcha was a beautiful take on an alcoholic matcha drink). Plenty of seating when we arrived early evening on a weekend night but the place started to get busier after 7:30PM.
We recently visited Fukumoto in Austin with a large party of 12, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. Coordinating a big group can be challenging, but the staff handled everything smoothly and professionally. Our table was ready on time, and the servers were incredibly attentive, making sure everyone had what they needed without ever feeling rushed. The food at Fukumoto was the true highlight. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The sashimi was fresh and buttery, the yakitori had the perfect smoky char, and the rolls were well-balanced and creative without being overwhelming. Our group also loved the grilled skewers and small plates—each item felt thoughtfully prepared with high-quality ingredients. Despite the size of our party, dishes came out consistently and at a good pace. The servers checked in often, refilled drinks, and helped us choose items to share family-style, which made the whole experience even better. The ambiance was warm, modern, and perfect for both groups and intimate dinners.
Had an early dinner which was quite nice. Decided to go with skewers and had Yakitori Negima (chicken thigh), King Salmon, Hotate Bacon (scallops &bacon) and Buta Bara (pork belly). The King Salmon was exceptionally tender and delicious. Monte Blanc dessert was delicious, both flavors were good depending on your taste. Prices were affordable for location and quality of food.
Delicious food and friendly service. Tried this place based on reviews and I see why they're so highly rated. Had miso soup, rolls, karaage (their version of popcorn chicken) all good. Their gyozo was my fave! I thought would be dumplings in a little broth (like a sauce) but I was a soup. An absolutely delicious soup!! The Ube Tiramisu (ask, not on menu) looks heavy but it surprisingly light and tasty! Not a fan of sake (the server helped me with some choices) but the plum wine is good.
