I visited this museum last weekend while I was in town, and honestly it was a pretty nice way to spend a few hours. The exhibits were laid out in a way that made sense, and there were lots of little details to read if you’re into history like me. Some of the displays looked a bit older, but that kinda added to the charm for me. The staff I talked with were friendly and helped point me in the right direction when I got a bit turned around lol. Overall it felt calm, clean, and not too crowded, which I really liked.
This is a wonderful museum full of rich local history. Beautiful paintings, the section on the local native people's, how Stockon once looked like, and I especially love the section that shows the history of the Holt tractor, the boat industry, and the Willeys Jeep drive by students during WWII. This diverse collection is a must see for locals and visitors alike.
Absolute gem, I'm so glad we made the trip. For a museum of this size, the collection of European and American oil paintings is outstanding. The Leyendecker exhibit is one of a kind, and we especially enjoyed the "extras" in the drawers below his works. Easy to find, plentiful free parking on the streets around the park, bargain admission prices, well organized, with friendly, knowledge staff.
I visited this museum recently and had a pretty good experience overall. The building was clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate. There was a nice mix of exhibits, some really interesting artifacts, and a few interactive displays that made the visit more engaging. The staff were polite and available to answer questions, which I appreciated.
I went on the first Saturday of the month which has no admissions charge. Highly recommended! They have a very lovely collection of beautiful paintings, and the first floor history museum is so cute. They use the old boardwalks from the Amtrak station I believe down here in Stockton and they recreated the general stores from the early days of the city. They also have a very lovely collection of native American artifacts. Third floor is all advertising art from Leyendecker. I immediately fell in love with the very first painting from when you walk in.
