Love this place! We come here every time we are in San Antonio to visit family. Would definitely recommend the steak and fries. And of course...the carrot cake!! Came on New Year's Day and had a wonderful experience. Our waiter, Julio, was absolutely amazing! Very attentive and helpful! Salmon was excellent!
The grilled artichoke was just amazing, and the orzo very healthy and fresh. The veggie burger looked great, but it was too crumbly. They were nice, but even after mentioning twice that we didnt want mayo in our veggie burger, since we dont eat animals nor their secretions, we end up having mayo in our bun. The menu is not vegan friendly at all, why it is so hard to be able to order something and making sure it is not going to have flesh or animal secretions? This type of places should start switching to a cruelty-free, healthy, plant based meals... and reducing or avoiding serving animal flesh or their secretions.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t start this review by complimenting the service. We went in the evening during peak dinner hours, and Brennon did an amazing job. His explanation of the daily specials and his menu recommendations were very welcome, and he was absolutely on point with everything from refills to clearing used dishes (he said, and I quote, “that’s the last time I let you go dry tonight” after I finished my first cola rather quickly—and by God he meant it, as I had full glasses for the rest of the evening). An absolute treat for our first time visiting. As for the food, it was very good, though the appetizers and side dishes really stole the show for us. Definitely recommend the deviled eggs if you’re stuck on what to order, and the chilled orzo and wild rice would probably pair well with just about anything on the menu (it’s mixed with cranberries and greens and is just so good). Our entrees were the seared ahi tuna and steak burger, and both were very good! The tuna was served as two steaks, and the only real nitpick we could give was that one was more well done than the other. The steak burger was cooked excellently, though it could have used just a little more seasoning on the meat. We had the carrot cake for dessert, which was absolutely excellent. The frosting was not too sweet, and the cake was thick yet fluffy. Definitely suited for two people, and was honestly rich enough to split three ways. All in all, a very good experience at *maybe* just a little too high a price point. Everything felt about $5 too expensive for what it was, but the service totally makes it worth it!
A newer AH institution, smack in the middle of the Quarry. Been coming in since early 2000’s. All round good place for private meal with friends, business lunch, family dinner, place to meet before going out. Consistently has good food quality, menu changes so you don’t get bored eating the same thing. Great place to have a steak. Veggies on offer changes. The best thing - carrot cake dessert, served reminiscent of slab cake with a flowy cream cheese frosting on top and hint of pineapple flavor baked in. Bar area if it’s a quick stop or waitlisted Definitely an upscale friendly atmosphere. Darker woods and dimmer lighting. You can dress coastal Texas casual-Tommy Bahama; might feel most comfortable in a preppy, boho, golfy or suit aesthetic.
I have never been here before but decided to try it out. We were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted quickly. Our waitress, Gabby, was kind and helpful. The drinks were yummy and refreshing. The food came out quickly and was delicious. The portions were great size. I had the fish tacos and they were very tasty. Everything seemed fresh like true home cooking not premade meals that they just heat up. We got some dessert! They were huge! We will definitely be back and make this one of our regular places to visit!
