Excellent wine store with an extensive selection. The available inventory is well selected and contains bottles out of the standard fair. Friendly helpful staff. They know wine here.
This is one of our favorite places in Richmond. We’ve been attending the classes for more than a year now, and the community that has grown around this experience has been incredible. The staff are wonderful and knowledgeable, the selection is unparalleled, and there’s always something new to explore. Couldn’t recommend more highly.
I usually only leave a google review unless I have an overwhelming positive or negative experience. I felt compelled after the encounter I had today. Since Ive been a customer many times prior there are several go-to wines I purchase, so i normally (like today) know what I’m looking for. While I was shopping I was on my AirPods talking to my friend going through hard time - offering my condolences. After making my selections I was walking towards the register- when one of the workers abruptly stopped me in my tracks and said “Mam this isn’t a place for personal calls”. ….Pardon me SIR- last time I checked- this isn’t Saint Peter’s Basilica, furthermore, I could barely hear your snarky request over the classic rock music blaring throughout the store. Clearly—I was unaware there are strict rules of conduct in order to be a customer within your store. I will be taking my regular business elsewhere moving forward … a place in which where being on a phone call during an independent 5 min shopping session is not seen as irreverent. To give credit where credit is due (from prior shopping experiences) all other employees - particularly the female owner was extremely helpful in assisting- especially if you have any inquiries or looking to explore new varietals. They have a great global wine selection and monthly deals for quality selections.
As soon as I walked in the door of J Emerson, I knew that these are my people. The best selection of old-world wines in RVA, hands down. They have an impressive selection of fancy wines for your dinner party, but they always have a selection of delicious reds, whites, and roses (during the summer) on sale at fantastic prices. The friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the wonderful dog Lincoln, make this one of my favorite shopping trips each month. We are lucky to have J Emerson in Richmond.
I really love this store. They have an incredible selection of wines from all over the world. One that I was particularly interested in, Luigi Baudana Langhe Bianco "Dragon" 2021. You will love this wine by the way. Produced from grapes on the estate of Luigi Baudana by the esteemed JD Vajra Barolo winery. Staff is very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly, without being overbearing.
