Based on my personal experience in a Utah family court case, I found the Guardian ad Litem’s approach to be one-sided. Despite submitting evidence and raising specific concerns, I did not see those materials meaningfully addressed. It appeared to me that the GAL relied primarily on information provided by one parent, which raised concerns for me about whether the investigation fully considered both sides. Given the importance of neutrality and thoroughness in a GAL’s role, this was disappointing and concerning. Parents considering this GAL may want to be proactive in confirming how evidence will be evaluated and how balanced input from both parents will be ensured.
Going through a divorce is one of the most emotional and confusing experiences someone can go through. By the end of mine, I was exhausted and overwhelmed, and I found myself feeling really frustrated with the process and the timelines. If you’re going through a divorce, my heartfelt advice is to check in regularly with your attorney, stay connected to what matters most to you, and ask for a realistic understanding of timelines so you’re not carrying unnecessary fear or confusion. Divorce is hard enough — having clarity and emotional support truly matters. Overall, I can say with honesty that Jess Couser Law is compassionate, capable, and deeply committed to their clients. I’m grateful for the understanding, time, and care they showed me.
