Walking into this store is like stepping over a threshold into another dimension... chock full of horror. My FAVORITE brick and mortar in all of St. Paul, hands down. Always a pleasure to visit and one I never miss when I have the opportunity. For fans of the macabre, this is a must-visit destination with the greatest and most horrific titles in the Upper Midwest! Come for the selection, stay for the dread.
If you like weird books and a very attentive and knowledgeable staff/owner, this is the place for you! The last time I was there, I mentioned I didn’t know much about the horror genre for books and the owner typed up (on an actual typewriter!) a list of options for me to check out. I also like that the books are accessible in ways that sometimes old or rare books are not, as you can pick them up and look at them; they are not all under a glass box and lock and key.
What an amazing store for the person looking for macabre, horror, sci-fi, fiction and otherworldly books. The owner was playing music and was super knowledgeable. Myself and my girlfriend picked up a couple of books and intend to come back when we are done reading what we purchased.
A lovely book store if you are into horror books! The owner has an amazing collection of classic horror books. The vibe of the store is perfect for the genre they're selling. My feedback would be that I wish there was at least some light music playing in the store, as browsing in silence felt weird. Another thing was I wish the sections were labeled, as since I was a first time visitor I didn't really know how things were sorted. For a personal touch, I think it would be cool if they did what some other book stores do and write a little blurb on a note under some of the titles about what you like about X book or why you should read Y book. That would help new to horror people find what the store owner likes and move some titles. Overall a great spot if you know what you're looking for, and talking to the store owner was lovely.
one of my favorite spots in the twin cities. rare, signed, vintage books that you’re free to pick up and flip through - such an incredible opportunity. I talked with the owner about his House of Leaves collection. highly recommend even just to browse!
