The people of Austin are blessed to have the food and the people you will find here. It was our first time here and we simply asked the server what they recommend and we followed their guidance. We had some grits. We had some eggs. We had some slab bacon. We had the crab cake Benedict. Everything is fresh, expertly prepared and even somewhat adventurous. Even the homemade pepper jam, which is a bit spicy was a delicious surprise. We plan to go back tomorrow.
Great tasting food and portion sizes. Unique Chile Relleno menu item which was delicious as well as BST Omelet was delicious. The French Toast with Banana Foster toppings was an amazing and super tasty - highly recommend but will likely need a To-go box due to its large portion size. Amazing staff , quick service and was worth the detour for non-local to visit.
Not from here. Overall OK. Food was not great. Expected a little more because of the good reviews. Was excited to try the biscuit and gravy. Got a half order and only ate 1 of 2 biscuit halves. Gravy was too salty for me and had a weird taste. The “biscuit” was also very odd textured like a thick chewy piece of bread. The lemonade was very sour, not sweet at all. There was also an odd taste to it. Also got a half order of pancakes. The “whipped” butter was chunky and thick. Where I’m from, the whipped butter is actually whipped and spreadable. The pancakes were dense. The maple syrup wasn’t enough for 2 pancakes; I like them drenched. It wasn’t sweet enough or flavorful. The good thing about this place was we got seated right away in a super busy place. It was only 2 of us. The group of 5 that walked up before us was given a 30min wait time. So if you’re one or two people, you’re more likely to get a table/seat at the counter. Anything more expect to wait for a bigger table.
I learned that Phoebe was named after the head chef's daughter and they have three different location. After reading all the reviews I was very disappointed in the food. I was very hungry so anything would of been good. Head chef wasnt in was what I was told. I got the Crab cake Benedict. First, the egg was not runny. Second of all the crab cake itself had that grease aftertaste. The sauce on top reminded me of a much runnier version of tartar sauce. Mayonnaise with a little vinegary tang. The store was very lively a lot of bustling around. However when I went there wasn't a lot of patrons more catering stuff for later on. I don't know but.. the store itself was really nice and clean bright.
Went to Phoebe’s today for breakfast in Austin. The shrimp and grits were different from southern shrimp and grits they were still really good and flavorful. My wife had the pancakes with ricotta in them, which were really delicious too.
