Last week I ordered a cute Salaam flippy skirt from Shopgirls. It turned out I needed a smaller size and called Katie to see what other colors she had and I explained that I had to watch hem length so the Velcro in my AFO brace doesn’t tear my clothes. Instead of just exchanging my skirt Katie asked me to drop by the store before regular hours. When I arrived, she had skirt and dress options hanging all around the dressing rooms for me to try. I was like a kid in a candy store. Katie knew that I was trying to make peace with my new foot accessory and rather than dwell on that she brought the focus to the lovely colors of the cute swirly skirts and I was able to find several options that would work. One of the pieces was a dress that was very easy to put on, and I called Katie to see if she had more of those. This time rather than having me come into the store, she delivered the dress to my house. Shopgirls isn’t just a storefront at 62nd and Oak filled with clothes, and purses and accessories. Shopgirls is a home to all of us who are welcomed at the door and who are buoyed by acceptance and sisterly inclusion as we touch and feel the lovely frocks, shoes and jewelry around us. Shopgirls sends us out the door with our ribbon tied bags of goodies and a renewed confidence. None of us leaves there without having felt the most prized item in the store, the sincere kindness of Katie and her Shopgirls.
Late last summer on an impromptu drop-in to ShopGirls, l picked up a silver necklace for my wife. It has an elegant circle with a pendulum accent, presented on a delicate chain. Long story short, my wife accidentally cut the chain vs the tag as she tried putting it on first time...😅 After moping over what next when we couldn't work the fine chain, we simply set the necklace back in its box...where it sat till a couple of weeks ago when on a whim, we took it back to ShopGirls thinking we can have it fixed by the artist who made it...expecting fully to pay for the repair. Delightfully though, the repair was made for free, much to our glee! Thank You, ShopGirls, for the great customer service gesture! It has given the nice necklace an endearing story!
One of my favorite places! Great gifts in all price points and such fun accessories. My really fun clothing items are always from Katy at Shopgirls!!
Shopping here is so much FUN. Katy makes it easy, and has a great eye to pick out pieces that work. I love coming here- came in to find a dress, and left with an amazing dress AND several useful and comfortable pieces for work and a trip. Not to mention the great vibe around Christmas - lots of gift ideas from party snacks to ornaments to jewelry. They just celebrated 16 years in business and hopeful won't go anywhere - a total gem for this area!
This is one of my favorite shops in Brookside. They have the best collection of earrings and gifts, there is something for every occasion. The owner Katy is seriously one of the nicest people and makes great suggestions when you need help with gift idea. Everyone should check this place out!
