Took in an older Squier MB5 bass in and got an estimate on repairs. It wound up needing way more than expected but they worked with me on it as they've been seeing me try to get my son to flourish with learning bass. This crew is passionate about music and people making art. No pressure to buy and they'll let you hook up any guitar to any amp and jam out for hours. Highly recommend checking them out
My partner is a musician, so I end up in guitar stores sometimes but don't know anything. There's no reason for a person to waste time on me, so I just tell them upfront that I know nothing about it. This is the only place where the response was like "I'll teach you a few chords on the ukulele if you want." Then I was told about an app that'll teach me to play songs on the ukulele. Then I was allowed to play with the ukuleles without feeling pressured to buy one. Haven't ever really felt welcomed in a music store before. You get the sense that they would actually just like you to enjoy an instrument... Maybe I WILL take up the ukulele.
South Austin Music is a wonderful shop with truly kind and patient staff. Even though we didn’t end up buying anything, they treated us with so much respect, and care. We spent about 30 minutes there, and Phoenix in particular was incredible — he gave a lot of attention to my child, made him feel welcome, and truly heard. That kind of kindness really stands out and says a lot about the shop. We’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend South Austin Music to anyone, especially families. 🩷
Recently bought a guitar after two years of pawn shop guitars I wanted something that would make the sounds that I'm accustom to from guitar players I admire.Sean who works their made me feel like that would be the store I could buy something that i would be comfortable with ...sound and price..he will set you straight if any questions or help with trying out the guitars. Please remember some of them are 100 years old or more😬 Right Sean!!? Anyway thumbs up to 11.
I took my 1976 Gibson 335 into Ben Nippes at South Austin Music to get it refretted and he is so thorough! He not only refretted the guitar, but also evened out the truss rod, level the fretboard, and set up the guitar perfectly. I'm so happy with all of this!
