⚠️ PARENT/CAREGIVER WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD ⚠️ I visited Snapper & Co at the Southern Cross Yacht Club (Yarralumla) today with my 3 and 4-year-old grandchildren. As a former professional Chef, I am absolutely horrified by the safety standards and the lack of duty of care at this Southern Cross Club venue. We ordered the "Whipper Snapper" Kids Fish & Chips. Not only did the kids' food arrive long after the adults, but the fish was RIDDLED with small, sharp bones. When I confronted the Manager, his response was dismissive and terrifying: "Yes, there are bones even in the kids' menu." He even suggested the battered option was the same. To serve a dish specifically marketed to toddlers that contains multiple sharp choking hazards is gross negligence. Had I not checked the fish with a fork first, my grandchildren could have choked. There are NO warnings on the menu regarding bones in the kids' section. A refund was given, but that doesn't change the fact that this kitchen is serving dangerous food to children. Parents, please be extremely careful or avoid the kids' fish entirely here. Safety is clearly not a priority for the management at this club.
Great venue good food good prices. Deck is great for summer lunch.
Good first attendance experience here. Staff very good food ok had the salmon. Manager was able to find and give me my club card-thanks. Great place and beautiful environment and location. Have not been there after a few years. It was mainly due to not too great food long time ago, but the food is excellent now and will go back for sure! Ample parking and very reasonable price and serves.
A lovely afternoon on the yacht. A bit windy but the yacht glided through with little movement. Lovely meals and good facilities. The option of a few decks to stand or sit on is nice. Smokers can smoke at the back right hand side deck. Staff were great at catering to dietary needs and accessibility. I had hoped there might be some commentary on the local sights but we ended up searching online to find out about sites and guessing amongst ourselves. We saw many landmarks and it was a very interesting perspective of Canberra. The food was great. The alternate serving gives an option to swap which is good. The lactose free dessert option of sorbet did stain my lips and teeth very red, but tasted nice. Tea was available with milk and cups on request at the bar. This system could perhaps be announced to the passengers. Kids meals were a good size but everyone agreed that the chocolate topping on the ice cream wasn't great - it almost tasted like a liqueur or coffee. The kids still ate it. Overall, the views were lovely, the staff were lovely, the food was yummy and it was a great afternoon spent on the lake. I recommend this experience to locals and tourists.
