As a thriller in romance, author, I enjoy taking breaks and playing music. I’ve been into Alan’s a couple times and have been super happy with the music selection. Blows away anywhere else including online. I also had my violin restrung, the bridge adjusted, and everything cleaned up. As a guitarist, violinist and pianist with YouTube channels where I share my musical journey, I really appreciate the massive selection. This place has more books and music options than I have ever seen. I’ve been to a couple music stores in Europe, Wyoming, Idaho, and Washington State, and I’ve never seen this many books. As a thriller author, that makes me super excited too. Actual real paper books I can touch instead of guessing if a book is good online. The super helpful staff certainly helps, too. They’re confident in the work and the price was great. Will come back every time I’m in San Diego. Thank you!
I have been a customer here for 40 years. They are always helpful, happy to see you, and will treat you like family (after a few decades, haha). Love this place. Amazing selection of sheet music and every type of instrument for sale or rent.
Every time I come here for a rosin, or a book, the staff are so sweet! I notice that they have a really wide selection of instruments. Woodwind, to string, to brass :) I love the atmosphere as well
What an amazing place! Speaking to the owners son, we found out that Alan’s has been in this location for 51 years (but the business has been going for 71 years)! We went to get a violin and viola checked out, neither of which have been played for years. We also had a broken violin string which he replaced for us and looked over both instruments as part of the service, retuning both in the process. Incredibly helpful, affordable and such a gem in La Mesa! Highly recommend and a huge selection of music to choose from! Thanks so much!
The family business owners do a great job of making you feel welcome. They have a wide variety of instruments, w/knowledge about them. There is a wonderful atmosphere in the store! Beautiful place to get help for your every musical need!
