I came to Black Magic the other night for the first time with a group of friends plus my boyfriend, who has raved about their pizzas since we've met. He's a long-time devotee and I can now say that I understand why. I wouldn't call myself a food snob or picky by any means, but I am a little particular about pizza. The pizza at BM maintains a crispy bottom yet is still soft, airy and delightful to eat, which definitely speaks to the shop's goal of providing a New-Neapolitan pizza. The menu is small-ish (which to me means that there's a greater chance that everything on there is specially curated and thoughtfully made), the mood is casual and very down-home Milk District, and on Wednesdays there's a great deal for 6 chicken wings for $6. Altogether, my friends and I ordered: -2 Jack the Trippers -1 Coheed and Calabria -1 Dr. Pepperoni -1 order of Garlic Parm wings -1 order of Barbecue wings We all traded a couple slices so we could get a feel for what everyone else ordered—none of the slices disappointed, though the Coheed and Calabria and Dr. Pepperoni were slightly greasy for my taste. I got over that pretty quickly and devoured the rest of the pie. For pricing: We all agreed that for the size of the pie (basically a standard medium pizza), the prices were high, but in line with most places' pricing these days; and considering that the ingredients were fresh, tasty, and I could see them preparing the cooked toppings from the order window, I think the pricing is fair. The specialty pizzas are, in my opinion, pretty overpriced, though. I wish there were an option to try just one slice of the weekly specialty pies, because they sound enticing and fun to sample, but I'm not sure if I could or would want to stomach an entire pie with cream cheese and chili sauce à la the crab rangoon pizza. Maybe I'm just not hardcore enough. Aside from the pizza, the staff were really cool and kind. Loved the vibe of everyone working the night that we went, and you can tell they're invested in the shop's objective to furnish great pies and create a space that's accepting of all.

On one hand, Black Magic Pizza is some of the best pizza in Orlando. All pies are made-to-order, the crust and ingredients are fresh, they have inventive flavors and offerings, and I love their merch - particularly the stickers. I cannot think of a single greater place to grab pizza, beer, and wings. It is located inside of Whiskey Lou's which is a great dive for cheap, stiff drinks. Personally, I love the atmosphere, but it might not be for everyone. On the other hand, there are a couple things keeping Black Magic from being my #1 pizza spot. I have an important, personal quip which I always forget about until after I have eaten their food. It is very greasy and I'm yet to go there and not get sick in some capacity. There are very few foods that upset my stomach or make me feel ill, but Black Magic's food just does not sit right with me. Their hot honey pizza, I think, is a particular offender: lots of grease mixed with honey and marinara. My girlfriend, however, has never gotten an upset stomach after eating, so this could just be a me problem. The second trouble comes with the prices. I'm contented to pay $20 for a medium-sized pie if it's of superb quality - which is true for Black Magic; however, their specialty pizzas are way, way over-priced. They have inventive and exciting weekly offerings such as the Crab Rangoon pizza, but I'm unwilling to spend upwards of $30 on something that might be bad. I think they should offer specialty pizza by-the-slice. Even though it upsets my stomach consistently, Black Magic Pizza is one of the best pizzarias in Orlando and I cannot think of a better spot to grab a delicious pizza with a cheap beer.

I’m a big fan of Black Magic Pizza, they’re consistently one of the best pizzas in Orlando and are always trying new variations with their weekly specials. The owners are very kind, friendly and clearly love what they do, which shows in the pizza.

Save your money and ask for a refund if there’s a mistake, because here’s what happened to me: Back in February, I ordered a pizza and it was missing sausage. I spoke with the manager, Travis, who told me the next pizza would be on them. Last night, I finally used that offer and asked for a simple pepperoni and sausage pizza with regular sauce. I was told the closest option was called “Coheed & Calabria.” I confirmed that as long as it didn’t have mushrooms, that would be fine. When the pizza arrived, it was extremely spicy with hot peppers, which I hadn’t been told about. It was so spicy that my partner and I couldn’t eat it. When I called back, the employee explained that the pizza had chilies on it and laughed it off, saying, “Well, it’s a free pizza, what do you expect?” So the first order was wrong, the replacement was wrong, and instead of making it right, I was dismissed. I also asked for a call back from the manager but never received one. Very disappointing experience.
