So excited that Blue Bear has a new location in the Sunset! Blue Bear recently took over this music school to expand their excellent program they’ve operated out of Fort Mason for decades. They’re such a pillar of the SF music community and having more classes available in different parts of the city is great for everyone who’s interested in adding more music to their lives. I’ve enjoyed every class I’ve taken at Blue Bear and I love how they’re thinking about integrating more deeply with the community.
The new Sunset campus for the Blue Bear School of Music is totally fabulous! I was already quite familiar with Blue Bear since each of my sons took lessons there, and each have become fabulous musicians. The teachers without exception are skilled, caring, and connecting. The programs are varied and interesting, and the operation overall is just top quality. Check it out!
For many reasons I would not recommend taking lessons at this studio. The facilities are dingy, old, and poorly functioning. Most of the lesson rooms have dim lighting with no ventilation and have a musty smell. The piano keys do not get cleaned regularly and are often grimy from young kids' hands. The pianos have not been tuned for a while and sound glaringly out of tune at times. If you are looking for a quality music education in a healthy environment, do not take lessons here.
A great place for my kids piano lessons, who have been taking lessons here for the past year or so. The lessons have been inspiring and motivating for my two boys(4 & 7), and they practice every day without being asked. Scheduling has been easy and flexible, and the student performances are comfortable and supportive as well. Overall, I highly recommend Village Music.
