Loved climbing here today. Friendly staff, accessible venue, student discount, huge venue, big car park, easy to get to by bus and great coffee. I like the adjustable climbing walls and the brushes to touch up the holds.

Happy to have another bouldering gym in Glasgow! Brushworks offers a wide range of climbing styles and holds, a solid conditioning room, tough training boards, a short reach climbing area and a cosy cafe. There are a lot of macro holds but still a decent range in the settings.

There is plenty to like about this new climbing wall. It is centrally located, competitively priced, has a good amount of parking, and includes showers. Staff were friendly and the registration process was efficient. BUT overall I wasn't a fan. For context: I have been climbing for 25 years and have visited dozens of climbing walls in North America and the UK. This wall reminds me of Substation in Brixton, south London, in that it is a big modern wall in a huge warehouse space. Like Substation that have made the decision to set almost exclusively with huge macro holds, because these holds look much better in this kind of big space. Unfortunately, overreliance on macros means that each problem takes up a lot of physical space so you can't put in nearly as many problems as if you had used smaller holds. A big warehouse therefore has less problems than existing smaller climbing walls that have a different setting ethos. The overuse of macros also has downsides from a climbing POV: 1) it makes the problems quite monotonous, 2) it favours climbers with big hands who get far more surface area on the huge slopers, and 3) it increases injury risks for climbers with small hands, including to wrist ligaments and elbow tendons. After 90 mins climbing here I had a very sore tendon in my left elbow. I've been climbing well for months with no elbow problems, but a succession of same-y moves on all these huge slopers messed it up. I will not be going back.

An amazing addition to Glasgow! I've been excited about a new gym opening here for a while and it does not disappoint! Excellent routes, with a really good range of climbs at all ability levels - meaning that you can try all kinds of climbs, even if you're more of a beginner. Toilets and facilities look pretty good and staff are all very lovely as well. Really looking forward to how this place will develop.

The kind of home gym I have been dreaming for. Top quality holds. Interesting and diverse route-setting. Big and airy. Well-equipped gym. Great coffee. I don’t feel like I am trapped by a certain V-grade here, instead I just want to give everything a try cause they look fun. And the staffs are so friendly and smiley. The head route setter was walking around and asking for climber’s opinions, which really shows how much they care about their business.
