this store is an absolute gem and if you can find some time to make it down during their very strange hours, you won’t regret it. 12-5 only one day out of the week feels insane from a business standpoint but these guys make it work and it feels even more rewarding finding little gems in the bookshelves. they have so many books on local and canadian history, ancient history, antique novels and more. books there can be almost 100 years old or more. they are somewhat expensive, but it will be hard to go there and leave without buying something. it is easy to spend hours in there just browsing and finding cool books to look at. will definitely try to be back.
This bookstore is my favourite in the city. I comb the shelves for at least half an hour each time I go. The nonfiction shelves are truly something to behold with beautiful shelves of histories, both local and global. Any reader should do themselves the favour of visiting this shop. You can even go a couple doors down to the coffee shop on the corner to read your new (ish) book.
This bookstore was great for obtaining a wide-selection of genres! I easily got the books I wanted thanks to the owners great navigational skills; all of the stores books are high quality, cheap, and well organized.
Wide selection of books but very difficult to find what you're looking for. Came in wanting to buy a large quantity of books (>20) and the owner didn't seem at all keen in helping me find any authors/genres; he simply pointed me to one half of the store and essentially wished me luck. A re-organization and online catalogue would go a long way for moving books here. I'd love to support this local shop but unfortunately I don't have hours to dig through stacks
They are only open for one day a week and only for a few hours, which hasn't been too challenging but certainly is difficult to pop in whenever you want. My main complaint is that their shelves never appear to change inventory and they have stacks upon stacks of unsorted books inside of boxes. If the books on the shelves aren't selling, can we not rotate the inventory? I also have very low success in finding anything I'm looking for. There are likely very normal and good reasons for why things are the way they are, but due to the issues listed above, I cannot recommend this location and I genuinely want to. Norman's and Family Books are very close and far superior for my needs.
