What a great place to train. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Both of our teachers/ trainers are top notch with years of experience. So happy I signed up with both of my dogs.

I need to be honest about my experience here. I wanted to come in and get basic manners for my dog so we could begin agility. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll choose to finish basic manners because of how classes have gone so far. When I came in, my dog was barking and stressed. There were 8 other dogs in the facility and he was frustrated and confused! They told me to pop him on the collar and tell him “no”. They wanted me to begin a power struggle with him and dominate over him. They advocated for dominance theory (debunked). In the first session with dogs, they moved too quickly through prompt fading procedures, creating frustration in the learning process. They also didn’t give us enough of a job to do. My dog was frustrated and we were left to deal with it alone. In week two, we were even more alone. They claim to use positive reinforcement, but they were confusing about it. Confusion is aversive, so it wasn’t positive reinforcement, it was just food. My dog was not able to say yes to our training. They asked us to work for way too long with not enough to do. There was not enough structure. My dog quickly became exhausted and exhausting, which worsened his behavior and mine. The people seem kind and well-intentioned, it just didn’t work out for my dog who needs an approach that boosts confidence and relationship. I messaged my trainer about my goals and she left me on read. I felt like they didn’t care about what I wanted, just to teach people to belittle and micromanage their dogs. If you want a dog trainer that cares about your success, works to meet your goals, and understands dog behavior, communication, and reinforcement, I would seek elsewhere.

I love the volunteer instructors they all do an amazing job! My SPoo has learned so much here in agility and nose work. We can't wait to start again. The place is spacious and the instructors care about good teaching habits. Highly recommend Companion Dog School of Tulsa!
