The crunch Middletown is poorly kept, specifically the women’s bathroom/locker room. Clumps of dirt and hair are all throughout the facility, along with inside the sauna. When I am paying for a service, I expect it to be a nice, clean environment and unfortunately this gym is not.
Nice staff and a lot of functional equipment . Then again, gotta be one of the nastiest gyms I’ve been too. The floors have never been cleaned and the men’s bathroom is disgusting. If you go to this gym don’t expect it to be clean ever.
TLDR: Please hire competent management. Endured a negative experience today, 12/24, that was ultimately handled poorly by management. I moved to a piece of equipment to exercise, and was almost immediately approached by a rude member who informed me (with attitude) it was occupied. She was utilizing a separate piece of equipment, attempting to hoard multiple machines at once. Anyone with gym experience (and an IQ over 70) comprehends this is poor etiquette, particularly during peak hours where access is limited. Furthermore, every paying member is granted equal access. It's a shared space. That being said, I'm not opposed to being amicable, but her entitlement caused me to disregard her demand. Her princess mentality stemming from her father never telling her "no" subsequently went on full display. My simple lack of capitulation escalated the matter, causing her to call her boyfriend, ordering him to "handle" the situation. Mind you, I'm exercising at this point, while she continuously attempts to evoke a reaction from me. Her boyfriend proceeds to walk over from across the gym to accost me. I continued training, exchanging words while he threatened me (even bringing his race into the equation). Workers intervened and requested an end to the ordeal. I obliged. Not even five minutes later, I was approached by an employee who informed me everyone would be required to leave for the day. I can sympathize with the need to be diplomatic, however, I never witnessed the other party leave. In fact, they were happily chatting with members and employees as I walked out. Ultimately, I was accosted, ganged up on, threatened, and required to leave, while the party who initiated and escalated the altercation was shown preferential treatment and allowed to stay. I don't believe this even necessitates expoundment. The aforementioned was incredibly stupid and poorly handled by management. Maybe it was due to the fact I'm a white male. Who knows. But it presented poor optics. A number of people have informed me this particular Crunch has a negative reputation, and that I'm not the first to experience such issues. The only redeeming comment I have regards the employee with whom I spoke directly. I didn't catch his name, but he exhibited a pleasant attitude and seemed adept at interacting with customers. In the end, this was mishandled. I'll heed the warnings of others and gladly avoid this particular gym 👍
Would not recommend using their personal trainers. Was in there on my very first day and a personal trainer came up to me with attitude because I tested the movement of a machine and he told me to re rack the weights that I didnt even put on there. People like him are the reason why people cancel their membership, he thinks because hes a trainer that hes above another member. Not happy.
I love this gym. The staff are always so kind and welcoming and they have a lot of equipment. I did only give 4 stars because they often have trouble with equipment being down. The photos attached were taken on the same day- that’s how many machines weren’t working. They’ve also had a lot of issues with the infrared sauna and tanning beds. I do have trouble getting machines because of how busy it is- if you’re looking for a quiet, less crowded gym this isn’t a good option. They could easily have double the space for the amount of gym-goers and I hope one day they build an even larger facility. Overall though it’s a great gym and as mentioned, the staff are kind and professional.
