Writing reviews are not an easy thing, but I will try to be as transparent as possible. I have been dancing socially for 10 years in LA, but never truly committed to a dance school due to the fact that majority of the time you don’t feel as welcome or as safe to join a dance studio. Going to socials are incredibly different than actually joining a dance school — and that is where Dancer University shines. It is the best place to learn latin dancing. First, the first time I walked into DU and Nishima, the general manager, was there to greet me with the biggest and most genuine smile. That was the moment I knew I was in the right place. I have worked in sales for a long time and the importance of having someone like Nishima be the first face a customer sees when they walk in to a new place is crucial! First impressions are one of the main reasons customers stay with you or go somewhere else. Second, the instructors are all extremely professional and respectful. They teach moves and combinations you can actually use in social events unlike other dance schools in LA that teach things that don’t translate to the dance floor and are really hard to replicate in social events. Lastly, the owners Nicole and Alayn are truly great ambassadors of the LA dance community. They make everyone feel welcome. Most importantly, no other Latin dance school in LA will prioritize your safety, as a lead and a follow, like Dancer University will — for me, this is the ultimate success of DU.
Dancer University is an outstanding studio. I joined their Zero to Hero Bachata course and was impressed by how the curriculum brings complete beginners to a level where they can confidently perform a routine that looks great and feels rewarding. The instruction is clear, structured, and paced in a way that helps you pick up both fundamentals and styling without feeling overwhelmed. I am currently taking their Intermediate Salsa progressive course, and the quality of instruction continues to stand out. The teachers challenge you in the right ways, give direct and actionable feedback, and slow things down when needed so you can truly understand the technique, timing, and partner connection. The one-on-one attention is especially helpful, and it is obvious that they care about developing dancers with strong foundations. Their Sunday practice sessions are another big plus and create valuable reps for building muscle memory. The studio culture is thoughtful and supportive. Nicole, the head instructor and owner, clearly cares about her students and the experience they have here. She goes above and beyond to make sure people feel welcomed, supported, and equipped to progress. That level of commitment creates a community where students feel both encouraged and motivated. Dancer University is a great fit for anyone starting their Latin dance journey or looking to level up. They offer both drop-ins and progressive courses, including sensual bachata, which is surprisingly rare to find taught at this level. The range of options makes it easy for students with different schedules and goals to grow at their own pace. Highly recommend.
I will never regret coming to a place where everyone feels welcome. The professionalism and dedication of the instructors is unmatched. They pay incredible attention to detail, and each of them has a great class structure. From drop-in sessions to the amazing programs, everything is top quality. Even while recovering from surgery, I can still dance here and give my brain the puzzles it needs to keep life interesting. Thank you.
