Possibly the best bookstore for sci-fi and fantasy readers in Sydney. They have a huge range of books and such fun and cute decorations. The atmosphere is very quiet, so it can be hard to have conversations with friends but the staff are all super friendly and accommodating. They have a sale table at the back which can have good books for as low as $5 for readers on a budget. They often host events with local authors on site which are free to attend (correct me if Im wrong, all the ones I've attended have been free) and have author signings! A decent amount of their stock is signed by the author too. Overall, would recommend this store for any bookworm, but especially sci-fi, fantasy, or romance lover.
Been buying from these guys for years. Many titles. I recently requested the last copy of a very hard to find new book be kept aside. It was confirmed to be in stock, and confirmed to be held for a week. Three days later, I came in to purchase it, and was told it was given away to someone else. My disappointment, anger, and frustration can’t be described in words. There was no explanation as to why this was done, with no apology. It was simply put a “well, tough luck” situation. Two stars only because I’m trying to be nice….. Buyer beware.
Admittedly, I haven't been to Galaxy Bookshop for about twelve months or so, but it is still the best bookshop in Sydney for all those hard-to-find titles. Pleasant staff, great atmosphere and a very wide range of books. Needless to say, I shall not be waiting another twelve months before I go there again.
Beautiful scifi bookstore in the heart of Sydney with huge selection of hard-to-get titles even hardcovers! The staff was friendly even when I bothered her with questions regarding the dwindling Warhammer 40k novel stock.
I've been going to the various incarnations of this bookshop for over 40 years, so that says something. Although it is much reduced from previous instances in size it still carries the largest Sci fi and fantasy range in Sydney. The shelves are quite close together, which makes browsing harder than I would like, but it's a minor inconvenience. Those who work there are knowledgeable and friendly whenever I visit.
