Excellent selection of antique pieces from this shop. I really enjoyed talking with Isaac who was very charming and sweet. Between both of the locations that are owned by the same family, I was able to find something I’d wear that was in my budget. Huge price range and variety.
There's an interesting selection of antique jewellery in this shop. I was looking for pieces with green garnet and managed to buy a ring with these stones, plus diamonds, in it. Later I bought a rather elaborate pendant-both for my fiancee. Both pieces were about 100 years old, The staff were exteremely helpful. The prices and quality were also good, compared to contemporary pieces.
Last week I went into the shop with my dog and I spoke to an elderly woman. I was inquiring about getting my signet ring re-engraved. She said it would take two weeks as the engraver has to come into the shop and do it by hand. She gave me a price of £40 which I thought was a good price. Yesterday I phoned up the shop and spoke to another woman who is very rude and gave me a price of £20 to have the previous graving removed and then it would be £50 to have the new initial re-engraved. I went into the shop and spoke to her in person and I found the professionalism very insulting and they were very rude with me. It's quite a jump in price if you ask me so clearly it just says that they pick prices at the top of their head and there is no fixed price. I've managed to find a company in Edinburgh that is willing to do it for £30 plus VAT and that is hand engraved also by links engraving located in Edinburgh. I will never go back into this jewelry shop located in Rose Street Edinburgh even to buy my watch batteries which I have done in the past many of times. Would I recommend this jewelry shop to any one including friends and family. Absolutely not they're attitude and the professionalism is shocking and I found them very disrespectful looking down at me. Don't ever judge a book it's cover.
I popped in with a broken clasp on my necklace and they fixed it there and then on the spot. Chisholm & Hunter had quoted me £25 deposit plus £45 to fix it and a 6-week wait, so I’m really glad I came here instead. Sorry I didn’t get the lady’s name who service me today, but she was very friendly and professional. Highly recommend!
I went to Goodwin antiques, Queensbury st. with a beautiful vintage diamond and onyx brooch that I wanted to sell. I am from South Africa and had walked the streets of Edinburgh looking for antique dealers. When I arrived at the shop, I was greeted warmly and very politely by the lady shop assistant and a young man. They explained that the jeweller had just popped out for a moment. Wouldn't be long! I waited 1/2 hr, then left the brooch to go and renew my car parking ticket (1 and half miles away!) I was back in 45 minutes, by which time the jeweller had appeared and had looked at the brooch. He glared at me from his desk as I walked in, as if I had dirtied his premises, flicked his hand at the brooch on his desk, and signaled to the polite young man to give it back to me, which he did, apologizing that it is not something that they are interested in. The jeweller didn't even say hello to me, get up and discuss the brooch (and it has been seen by many other jewellers and greatly admired) or give me any reason why he just dismissed it! Such shocking manners to a customer! I believe the young man and shop assistant were very embarrassed, apologized and saw me out politely wishing me well. I got a very good price for the piece from a jeweller in The Royal Mile just opposite St. Giles Cathedral. (I can recommend their professionalism.) Goodwin jeweller - learn some PR manners!
