Grand Cru is hands down my favorite wine shop and hangout in West Town. Matt, the owner, is a true expert and consistently curates an incredible (and very affordable) selection by the glass, by the bottle, and for their weekend free tastings. If you’re new / shy to wine just tell him what you like and he’ll be able to recommend the perfect glass! It’s BYO food, which makes it even better… just grab takeout from one of the amazing spots around Fulton or West Town, then settle in at Grand Cru for a cozy, relaxed evening. The wine tastings are fantastic. I’ve attended several of them, including Willamette Valley, Sicily, and Bordeaux, and each one has been thoughtful, fun, and genuinely educational. They also host fun special events, like “Comedy Cru” a comedy night series which is always something to look forward to. Pet-friendly is the cherry on top - I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the neighborhood!
Stopped into Grand Cru recently to grab a bottle for a date night, and ended up having an incredible experience. The atmosphere was warm & inviting, and Matt took the time to help us learn more about red wines & pairings. We enjoyed a flight, picked out an amazing bottle, and it paired perfectly with our steaks that night. It truly brought the night together perfectly. Can't recommend this place enough for anyone planning a special evening, or if you just want to sit down & enjoy a few new flavors. Thanks again, Matt!
Grand Cru is exactly as advertised. Unique wine flights. A plethora of options by the glass or bottle from all regions you’d expect and more. Go for the flight and don’t be afraid to ask for a recommendation.
Going to Sicilia soon and found this wine tasting on Eventbrite, what a great experience! Knowledgeable, personable guided, expert tasting varietals and by region. snacks from the Italian bakery across the street. Arrived early and cooled off in the cool interior with a glass of wine. Various interesting varietals in the shop for sale. Very personable staff.
Grand Cru in Chicago is a hidden gem for wine enthusiasts. Owned by Matt, whose extensive experience in the wine business is immediately apparent, this is the spot for discovering unique and exceptional wines. Personally, what sets Grand Cru apart is Matt’s commitment to sourcing wines from countries such as Greece, Argentina, Portugal, and South Africa (among many others). These selections provide an opportunity to explore flavors and varietals that are hard to find elsewhere. The retail space itself is a reflection of the Grand Cru ethos—open, inviting, and relaxed. Whether you’re stopping in for a bottle or planning to enjoy a glass in the store’s welcoming ambiance, it’s a place that feels approachable and unpretentious.
