[Hole in the Rock] Located in Papago Park near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, Hole in the Rock is a famous landmark featuring giant natural openings in a majestic red sandstone butte. A short, easy 0.3-mile (approx. 0.5km) hike leads you to the main cavern, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Phoenix skyline and stunning desert sunsets. Historically, the ancient Hohokam people used the holes to track the sun's position as a seasonal calendar. Today, it remains a favorite spot for hikers and photographers alike. > Note: For the safety of your furry friends, all Phoenix mountain trails are closed to dogs when temperatures reach 100°F (38°C) or higher.

Beautiful park for hiking walking biking. You can feel the peaceful calm energy and frequency. The Hole in the rock is pretty big. Good for families friends, especially to hang out on a first date. I'm sure it's breathtaking at night however this place closes its gate at 7pm. Not enough picnic areas once you start moving through the course. I saw two restrooms. They have a variety of trails too.

Simple, yet breathtaking! One of my favorite spots in the valley. From the short trek up to the hole down to the ponds nestled amongst the palms (which remind me of my days in Egypt). You will feel transported. Not to mention the pyramid close by. 10/10 do recommend!

Beautiful hike to a natural feature where you can relax and watch the sun set. Nothing overly crowded but traffic can sometimes hold up in the parking lots try and arrive a bit earlier. Definitely worth seeing and it's not difficult to climb.

The park itself is very pretty. You can pack a lunch and eat out on the picnic tables. When you first walk up you think, how am I going to climb up to the hole? The trail to the top is behind the rock. There is a trail to walk around the back and climb up. When you get to the hole, you step in and climb down uneven stairs. There are spots where you can sit to enjoy the sunset. It does get very crowded as it gets closer to sunset. Be ready for a crowd of people. We went in November, the weather is perfect. In the mid to high 70’s and in the evening 40’s for lows. The Botanical Gardens and Zoo are in the same area. Plan to go to the Zoo and Botanical Gardens then finish the day watching the sunset. Lots of great pictures to be taken in the hole and around the area. We saw photographers taking family photos. We did not go to the zoo or botanical gardens on this trip. We didn’t have time. If you are not a normal hiker or get out to exercise, be ready for steep stairs and uneven terrain. Lots of loose gravel.
