Great spot for family outings and date nights. We were seated quickly even on a busy Saturday. The only issue was that our waitress vanished after taking our order, so the bread took quite a while to arrive. Still, the overall experience was enjoyable.
My husband and I had a fantastic dinner last Friday evening. It was a little bit busy, but our service was prompt and highly professional. Great atmosphere without being too loud. The steak was perfect.
Two reviews in one... Dinner and breakfast. Dinner - We got sat in a rounded booth which was really nice and spacious for two people. Our waitress Amber was nice and answered our questions about the menu. However, we did ask for an extra couple of minutes to look at the menu, but she didn't come back for our order for 15 minutes. The blueberry Arnold Palmer was sweet, tart, and refreshing. We were happy that our free appetizer voucher was honored for a French onion soup. The soup was delicious and was the quintessential definition of a 'great French onion'. Onions were cooked perfectly and the broth was sweet yet hearty. The only slight critique was the cheese, as it was slightly chewy / clumpy, meaning the cheese was heated too hot too fast. Also, it took about 20 minutes for us to get our bread and butter. The sourdough was delicious and the butter was salty and spreadable. The prime rib was already sold out by 7 pm which was disappointing, so I had to get the bone in ribeye instead. The ribeye had a good crust, was cooked medium rare, and was decently seasoned. Perhaps could use some more salt, but perhaps that's just my preference. The garlic mashed potatoes had the perfect level of garlic flavor and was also buttery and smooth. Green beans were super simple, steamed and salted. My wife got the filet mignon, cooked medium plus. It was perfectly cooked, but also lacked a little salt. The French fries were standard, nothing special, but were seasoned with salt and pepper which is a plus. Pricing was fair for the quantity and quality of what we got. Breakfast - limited menu, and the smaller portions reflected in the smaller prices. My biscuits and gravy were rather unique. The gravy was not rich and savory, but rather light and sweet.. So definitely a weird flavor profile I'm not used to. The eggs were light, fluffy, and tasty. The potatoes were not 'crispy' as advertised, but had a good flavor. I loved all the sautéed vegetables that came with the potatoes. My wife's Belgian waffle was amazingly delicious! Light, fluffy, nice crisp of the waffle and ahad a slight vanilla flavor. The cream on top was sweet and airy. Was definitely one of her favorite waffles ever! The side of bacon was three slices for $5.50. They were mediocre, nothing to write home about. Overall, the pricing was good, the service was good, the food was good. We would come back if we were in portland again.
Terrible service and overcooked steak. Asked the server if she has any recommendations for wine, she answered no, there is no recommendation. When she took the empty plate, she said “Had you not eaten all day?” Excuse me??? Extremely rude. Poor service! We ordered medium rare T-bone and the steak came back like picture one and they insisted it’s perfectly cooked. I mean seriously??? Would not recommend anyone to come to this place!!!
We made the trip from Seattle to downtown Portland with high hopes for Jake’s Grill, but unfortunately, it turned into a big disappointment. I ordered the Washington Double R Ranch ribeye expecting a thick, juicy, flavorful cut. Instead, what arrived was only about half an inch thick, lacking any real depth of flavor, and nowhere near worth the premium price. My wife had the crab eggs Benedict, but the crab meat was so salty it overwhelmed the dish completely. We also tried the calamari, which was just okay — nothing special. The restaurant itself is large, with a beautiful and classic atmosphere, and the service was decent. But sadly, great ambiance can’t make up for food that misses the mark. Both of us left our plates unfinished, feeling like the experience didn’t match the hype or the cost. For the price and the drive, we expected much better. Sadly, we won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to friends looking for a memorable meal in Portland.
