The “Bogle heads” approach to saving money has worked well for us. We retired recently and have been researching and developing an overall plan for the many changes and adjustments required for a secure and successful retirement phase of life. We are do-it-yourselfers and were looking for advice both to confirm our choices, and also to reveal choices we had not considered. We felt surrounded by circling, hungry sharks. Signing up for the “One-Day Financial Review” with John Luskin was interesting. Standoffish is too strong of a word, but he clearly wanted to make sure that the service he provides would be a good fit for our inclinations and our needs. That "soft sell" approach was part of what convinced us to go with him over the other services who used the "hard sell." Our experience proved that this was not a gimmick on his part. Of course, Jon is a competent financial advisor, but he also pushes you to consider the many other factors that need attention such as insurance, estate planning, healthcare, online security, etc. We appreciate the nudge and the advice. Even though he covers a lot of ground beyond his core area of expertise, we did not detect any tendency to make recommendations that he was not well informed about. We found Jon responsive to questions about topics covered in the retirement plan, but then we had a crazy new inspiration to buy a second house for a family member's use. We signed up for Jon’s hourly advice and he dove right in to provide honest feedback on the plan. He agreed that though it may not make the best long-term financial sense, it would be a good idea considering our life goals. This had us pondering how likely a wealth manager would make a similar recommendation given the significant reduction in their percentage fee that would result! It was a pleasure working with Jon Luskin. We highly recommend him to anyone who wants to take a “hands-on” approach to implementing their own retirement plan.
