I have had Michael restore several antique (English oak) pieces, including a small glass fronted bookcase with leadlight in the doors, a drop sided dining table, an oak extension table and four oak dining chairs. The pieces have all been in the family since they were new and I didn’t want the patina stripped away but the timber had dried out, the glue was failing and the polish was cracked and crazed. I am delighted to say that my family treasures are restored to functional and beautiful pieces of furniture that can continue to travel through the generations. Having seen the quality of Michael’s work, I commissioned him to create custom timber shadowlines and a marquetry dining table and splash back in my kitchen. He did not disappoint; spending many hours with the stonemasons and cabinetmakers to ensure that the timber is unobtrusively stained to just the right colour (I couldn’t tell it’s stained if I didn’t know and no one else has ever noticed). He completed the work on time and on budget. The result is breathtakingly beautiful and I am confident it will outlive the rest of the kitchen. (Especially as I know that Michael will be able to repair and refinish the timber work if we ever need it.) Thanks, Michael.
