I’m glad I chose Rent-E-Motos. Travis bought the motorcycle to me and waited for me to pass my DMV test. I have never received such personal service from a rental company. I recommend Rent-E-Motos because I’m a very satisfied customer 😊

I consider myself an open-mined guy, but I must admit, I’m pretty skeptical about e-bikes. I’m from the “old school” thinking where a motorcycle needs to have a motor you can hear and a clutch to use but these e-bikes are starting to change things. Before I start, you need to understand my riding level and experience that I bring to this review. I’m 59 years old and started riding when I was 4 years old. I started trail riding in the desert then later raced family enduros with my dad. Later, in 1976, I started racing motocross at Indian Dunes then started riding street bikes in 1988 on a 1981 Yamaha 750 Seca. Since 1988, I’ve owned several newer 250cc dirt bikes, and bigger/faster street bikes…from a 1989 Yamaha FZR600 to a Yamaha FJ1200 and my current bike, a 2017 Yamaha FZ-10 & a 2007 KTM 450 SMR. Since 1988, I’ve probably logged about 500,000 miles! When I want to go for a ride, I don’t won’t to worry about gas stops, however, my FZ-10 (aka…Empty-10) makes me think a little and plan a little before I go. Now let’s throw in e-bikes. They still have a way to go regarding distance and charge time but they’re getting there. This past weekend (9-7-25), I got the chance to try a Zero FXS, REM’s supermoto style bike, on the Little 99 Moto & Kart track in Stockton during a Superbike-coach Cornering Class that I take pictures at. I chose this bike simply because of the size track and because of my KTM 450 SMR I mentioned earlier. Boy, I was impressed with how this bike works and moves. First, this really wasn’t a far comparison because I feel Suzuki’s DRZ 400 is a better comparison since both are street going supermotos and my KTM 450 is a pure motocross converted race bike from the factory. With that said, I still get this wide ass GRIN on my face when I think about my short experience on “Zippy” (their nickname for the FXS and it FITS!). Now, the FXS isn’t a perfect bike by no means…suspension is pretty soft and the front brakes take some time to get use to due to the ABS it has, but it does feel light and it does accelerate pretty quick in its main mode. Besides not having an engine to listen to, hearing EVERYTHING going on was pretty interesting and funny to say the least, however, you get a “whine” so you can hear when you slow down and accelerate. Speaking of slowing down, there wasn’t any engine braking so that threw me off a little in a couple of the turns that I rely on but not that big of a deal but learned later there is a setting that “resembles” engine braking but I never went back out to try it…maybe I should have??? After my experience with the FXS, I might have to think about trying their Zero SR/S model…BTW, I’ve seen all 3 of their bikes in action at the Superbike-coach Cornering Schools, as well as other e-bikes, and it’s been AWESOME…they just need to YELL at me as they’re coming to make sure I get their picture…ha ha. Am I going to sell my FZ-10 and KTM 450 SMR so I can go out and buy an e-bike or two now? Nope…as I said, I’m “old school” and they still have a bit to go before I can start considering buying one. I’m closer though then I was before, quite a bit actually, and who knows…maybe one day I just might own one. After all, I ride motorcycles because of the freedom and absolute thrills I get from riding and I’m STILL grinning from ear to ear as I type out this review…LOL...that's the MOST IMPORTANT thing, right..???

I rented Travis’ SR-F for a week to ride to the Norton rally in Quincy CA and it was an entirely pleasant experience except for one problem that was entirely my fault. It was my first experience with an e bike and I was pleased with everything about it except the range. I rode all the way to Quincy with my eye on the charge gauge and was constantly aware of the state of charge and never got below 25%. On the way back to Sacramento I charged it in Orraville and then didn’t look at the gauge until I was almost to the delivery point. I didn’t realize how much 70MPH would suck the charge. When I looked down I realized why they had named the bike Zero. The charge gauge read ZERO. I tried to make it to a charging station near the airport but no luck. Travis had to come get me. Still, I loved the bike and I will probably buy one, if they get the range a little longer and the charging time a little shorter. All in all, a great experience and it was also great to meet a young entrepreneur like Travis. Try it; you’ll like it.
