Apparently this place has quite a history, a Dallas pedigree of sorts, and they are "famous" for their dumplings. But I just don't get it. Not worth the wait or the price. The best thing by far was the Sichuan spicy fish. I ate the whole thing with no rice, I was just loving the spice and the flavor on this. The rest of the food was not good. Egg rolls were mostly wrapping and grease. The famous dumplings were fine. I had one of each (veg, shrimp, pork, and chicken). Good but not memorable. Chicken, asparagus, and king oyster mushroom - everything was cooked okay, but it was so bland. Crispy pork tenderloin was the same - cooked well but no flavor. And the scallion pancakes... I am so offended by the horrible scalllion pancakes that were not scallion pancakes. Scallion pancakes are more like crepes. Delicate and light and a little savory. These were some kind of thick deep fried thing made to suit American tastes. I am still mad about it.
Royal China is always delicious! They have an excellent lunch menu with specials. Specials include rice, soup and an eggroll. The veggie dumplings were exceptionally good. We got the Jasmine tea. It came in a lovely pot. Our server was fabulous! I am making plans to go back!
It was good) The hand-pulled noodles and dumplings were fresh and full of flavor—I especially liked the dan dan noodles and soup dumplings. The atmosphere was cozy, and it was fun to see the chefs making noodles by hand. It’s a great spot for tasty and authentic Chinese food.
First and last time visiting Royal China. The restaurant itself was clean, but we repeatedly had to send back silverware and glassware—either there were random objects floating in my drink or smudges on the utensils. It was disgusting. Service was just okay. Nothing to brag about. Our server would disappear for long stretches, and we constantly had to ask other staff members to track him down. It was frustrating. The food was simply bad. I can’t dress it up—it was gross. My husband liked a couple of items, but for the most part, we forced ourselves to eat what we could since we had paid for it. Much of it didn’t taste fresh, as if it had been sitting out before being served. The flavors were harsh, and the smell turned my stomach. The only thing I somewhat enjoyed was the scallion pancakes. We won’t be back.
How this place has over 4 star rating is beyond me. Food was disgusting. Lo-Mian had a weird taste. The “crispy duck” was not crispy and also tasted off, no one ate that and it was $31. The “egg roll” had no egg, the smallest about of minced meat but ALL THE CABBAGE THEY COULD FIT INTO A ROLL. The highly rated Dry-Stirred Beef was soggy and tough. I added a side of hot mustard for $1. I would had ordered more sauces if I had known they wouldn’t include a single one. No soy sauce, duck sauce, nothing. Such an expensive meal for hardly anyone to eat. Oh and I paid $2 EXTRA for more broccoli in the sesame chicken and they added it to the same container as the rest of the meal. Basically I got more broccoli that I paid extra for but this apparently meant I got less chicken in the meal due to this. Would not recommend and will not order from again.
