An excellent Mexican restaurant specialising in Oaxacan cuisine in the heart of the CBD. The aesthetics of the interior make for a pleasant atmosphere. Service is friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. Started with the kingfish which was a medley of flavours. Calamari was well fried and paired well with the aioli. A standout was the chalupitas which was flavoursome and well seasoned. The mole tasting platter is well worth a try. The flavours are truly complex and unique. Ordered too many tacos but they were all good. Worth a return visit.
EXCELLENT ALL ROUND! Started with the Moles selection to try something new which came with soft freshly made tortillas, I skipped the green chilli based one as I’m not a spic gal but the other 3 had very distinct flavour profiles. The tuna tostada was fresh and tender with a slightly sweet and nutty flavour. Creamy corn was an absolute treat with the cheese pull and the sweet toasted flavour. Beef tacos were tender and well cooked. To finish the flower (I forget the exact name) taco which might have beaten the beef tacos in terms of flavour complexity. To top it all off we had live music and a mezcalita to accompany the meal
My wife and I wanted to get our city fix on, so headed to Sydney from Bathurst on Tuesday 30th! After a full day of shopping we had the craving for Mexican! My wife did some googling whilst we having a drink break(Chandon Sparkling) She found multiple places but most weren't open due to the time of the year! We settled on Santa Catarina because it was on the way back to our hotel. We got there around 8.45-9pm and the place was pumping but we managed to get a table for 2 close to the stair entry! The host was very welcoming and friendly. We sat down and a minute or so later the delightful waitress 'Alex' came to greet us with a huge warm smile! The menu was extensive and had plenty of gluten free options(I'm celiac) the wine list was also great, and a good selection by the glass! 'Alex' explained our dishes as well as had great knowledge of the wine list and the wines! The food came and presented extremely well! Flavours OMG, they were fantastic, every dish was delicious and the wine chosen went perfectly! A big thank you to the Chef & kitchen team! My wife then felt like doing a flight of tequila or Mezcal! Again, 'Alex' knew exactly what she was talking about and explained what every flight was! The Mezcal flight was chosen and the bar guy came over and explained which every Mezcal was, where it came from and the order it should sipped in! Our experience was amazing and we will definitely be going back again when we're next in Sydney! The only negative we both have is that we couldn't tell if the restaurant was accessible, our son in law is quadriplegic and we he would love to go here! Not your typical Mexican food which is refreshing. I really enjoyed their corn tortillas and their mole tasting with it. Do get their duck with mole and their crispy squid was so good. Their creme brulee was also pretty good. They have live music every Saturday which was a nice treat. They have a wide variety of drinks too. We enjoyed our visit.
Always enjoy coming here. They have one of the best spicy margs I’ve had in Sydney. Food is always delicious, would highly recommend the pork belly and fish tacos. We tried the beef and octopus tacos on this visit and both were great too, the octopus was tender and not rubbery which is often not the case. The guacamole is very good, we sometimes come here just for that and a drink. Basically everything is gluten free and coeliac safe so that’s great to see as well.
